well its been fun and almost to fun to call it done… and dont wanna get TOOO fancy since i carry it alot… but its a colt XSE government…i hand stippled the front strap and mainspring housing… installed an ed brown beavertail… got rid of the full length guide rod and went with a ed brown half length with a wilson combat plug… got rid of the ambi safety and installed a ed brown tactical…
That would depend on preference… What my preference is might not be your first choice.
I like the 10-8 and YoBo for a fixed rear, for adjustable usually Bomar’s are fine. I then run a trit insert up front. I like a blank rear so that my eye picks up the front sight first as it is faster for me. I also paint my front post red on my hard use 1911’s.
The downside comes in low-light where finding your rear can be a bitch… I am probably going to make a switch to a rear trit under my notch, (think of a Heine straight 8 setup) which will help with low-light to some degree, without compromising what I have trained with making it a simple transition. I find 3 dots distracting but they do excel in low-light.
I also really like John Harrisons new line of sights and am using them on a current build. He offers a nice variety fillings some voids in the market.
The sights on the XSE’s are white plastic dots that will more than likely fall out at a lousy time, and they offer no low-light capabilities. As long as you go with a quality manufacturer you will be GTG and in the 1911 market there are plenty of options to choose from.
Hope it helps and clarifies my definition for “proper sights”…
my xse came with novak rear…the front was painted on because the first couple times i cleaned it the paint wore off…which didnt bother me too bad because i planned on replacing the front with a tritium nite site before i even held it…
