Does any one know if LMT would be willing to sell me a barrel extension and gas tube/block for the mws?
I am really thinking I would like to run one of GAP’s 6mm creedemore barrels and in order to make it happen I need the extension/ gas block and tube. Going to email LMT as well, but that won’t get me any answers until tomorrow. 
LMT in the very beginning tried to share the love…i.e. allowing most anyone to purchase their MRP barrel extensions in order to facilate other barrel manufacturers to essential grow the MRP brand since the only thing that doesn’t lay golden gooses on the MRP/MWS train is the barrels which have always been outta house for even LMT.
This however quickly backfired, when the first batches of MRP barrel extensions went to a few barrel makers that created barrels that had serious issues working for folks who bought them…these folks then either bitched to LMT, or dismissed the impeccable MRP design because of some random barrel maker’s botch job.
It has to burn for an outfit like LMT who builds everyone else’s parts damn near including their own, to have to give up that chunk of control, and even potential profit that just the entire MRP/MWS barrel lineup has grown into.
You can blame Spikes a good bit for not being able to get MRP barrel parts I’d bet since they were one of the ones to receive extensions, and then created a batch of totally non functioning 9mm MRP barrels. To their credit their .22 attempt turned out nicely by all accounts. They used the extensions with Green Mtn. blanks IIrc with 1:16 twists…and in both 10.5" and 16" lengths. They also apparently have a few working 9mm barrels if you listen to a cpl. reports on the net.
Why couldn’t you just send the GAP 6mm CM barrel to DBMG and get them to convert like they have done for a number of other MWS users. They were dicking folks around, but hopefully they got their shop in order, and got the turnaround time back to where it was initially…and is currently advertised.
Another month or so, and I imagine we’ll see the real deal fine china .260/6.5cm MWS barrels from LMT…a much better barrel than the random ones they have had out the last few months that they won’t even disclose where they sourced the blank portions. My conversations go beautifully with LMT in every single aspect except anytime I inquire about the barrels for the MRP/MWS. When it first started happening I got pissy…now I just realize that this is most likely LMT’s nasty little habit, and they are constantly looking to improve their position in this matter, but obviously can’t thus far.
Best of luck… I have an extra 16" CL barrel for my MWS so I called and asked if I could buy a monolithic rail so I could just pull the pins on my 18"SS upper and they told me check back in a YEAR!! :rolleyes:. The logic is that they are selling so many complete rifles they are not selling components.
Well it sounds like my chances of getting the gas system parts and barrel extension are not that likely. I am just starting to talk with GAP so my next option will be to try to get the barrel and then have DBMG convert it for use in the MWS.
Trident, until I started reading on the 6mm creedemore I was dead set on one of the new .260 barrels but the 6CM seems to be more friendly to a gas gun. However if I can’t make that happen I’ll be more than happy with one of the newer .260 barrels coming. I was hoping they would be sooner than a month out though, I exchanged emails with Ryan early spring and he said they were hoping 14 weeks or so. Either way I’m sure I’ll end up with an even more capable long range shooter.
Trident: havent been reading up in a while due to being freaking busy. Anyway, is there something wrong with LMT’s new barrels? Getting bad reports? I received my 18"SS 7.62 about 2 weeks ago and visually it looks great but I have not had a chance to load any ammo. Who’s making the “newer” barrels you mentioned?
