And now the Daniel Defense mount has been replaced by a Knights Armament QD Mount, the RVG has been replaced by an AFG2 and a Gear Sector ASP Sling was also added:
Very impressive build. Everyone once in a while I see a gun that inspires me to “find a way to build it.” This is definitely one of those guns. Enjoy shooting the quiet way…
Very nice. Price tag adds up quickly. I did a 7.5" 5.56 using quality parts and it came in lots more than I thought. But I did it over an 8 month period.
I need to build a 9mm.
Hope this isn’t too much of a necro, but what magazines are you using?
I’ve got my 9mm PDW upper built and its currently living on a Plum Crazy pistolized lower with an M1S mag block. CProducts magazines feed great, but I think I have the gen1 follower on my one CProd.
I’m planning on buying a bunch more, hopefully with the right followers, on the hope they work with the DDLES lower (which I will be SBRing too).
Its a ton of fun. I wanted a 9mm subgun and didn’t want to go with an MP5 clone. Very happy I went with the AR. I can’t wait to get my DDLES so it looks proper.
No problem. I have three CProducts mags with the orange follower (Jan. '10 production) and three metalform mags from CMMG. I have yet to have an issue with either type. The only failures I’ve had were a result of either a weak grip (on two or three occasions) causing a misfeed, or because the gun was too dirty. Shooting suppressed makes for a REALLY dirty gun and I’ve since learned that this thing likes to run WET with lube.
Cool. I’m going to get 4-5 more CProducts ones. The two Promags that came with the upper I bought are garbage. One will spit out the last round in the mag as the bolt comes back after the 2nd to last, causing the bolt to lock and the round to just kind of hang out in the upper. The other one wouldn’t feed hollowpoints at all.
Edit: Forgot to mention, the Gen1 followers on the CProducts will not actuate the bolt catch. The Gen2 followers should work for me.
I was pretty dead set on getting myself a new DD m4 v5 with all the trimmings.
After reading more about the 9mm AR’s and finding the DD lower, I find myself wanting one…plus they are cheaper to shoot, excellent for home defense, and great for plinking when out in the woods. I’d likely spend 90% of my time shooting sub 75 yd distances, so the 9mm AR seems like the more logical fit…but a lot more hassle, waiting, and money.
I haven’t completely added up the pieces, but I wonder if this can be done right/reliably for $2500-3000, including paper work and an aimpoint optic. I wish the DD lower took glock mags, I’ve seen a few that do, but havent read good things about them.
Sorry, not meaning to hijack, just thinking outloud and keep finding myself here to mull my decision
A few questions, (which probably just show my ignorance): #1 - How many rounds with the suppressor before your gun malfunctioned? #2 - If suppressed guns are known to run dirty, why would you elect to not have a Forward Assist? #3 - What made your gun cost $4500+? Just wondering…
Somewhere between 360 and 450. I’ve put about 850 rounds through it so far…less than six malfunctions and all of them were attributable to me.
I’ve probably used the forward assist on my Colt LE6920 about three times in the 2,000 rounds or so that I’ve shot it. When I set out on this project I knew that I wanted a dedicated, purpose-built system…the ST upper fit the bill–and looks better than the RRA (IMHO).
But I swapped out the DD aimpoint mount, the RVG and a ST barrel, so it was really more like $4950…and probably a $120 or so of shipping costs…and two cases of ammo…yeah, it adds up.
