Well it looks like after 3 months of bullshit I finally managed to buy a home in Arizona. I never realized how hard it actually was and of course the current market situation didn’t help. Short sales, repos and all the other crap, wow! So we found a house and the bank agreed to accept my VA loan after a few rejections. So if all goes well escrow will be done by around mid-August.
Can’t wait to get back to a gun friendly state and expand my collection.
Was stationed at DM in Tucson for 7 1/2 yrs in the 70’s-decades ago. Had a house right outside the base. Within minutes I was in the desert shooting. Learned the meaning of hot-but it was a dry heat:D Had open carry too. Good luck, you’ll enjoy it.
Well the good thing is I will no longer be a gun loving criminal. California’s insane gun laws among other things finally gave me the impetus to get out. Oh yeah and gas is about .35 cents a gallon cheaper.
Since I live in the hi-desert already and work over here I don’t think getting used to the heat will be an issue.
The heat in an oven is a dri heat too.
I was stationed at Williams for six and Luke for two, when I was at Williams, the Santans were my shooting play ground…
I went from the humidity in upstate NY, got off the plane in Tucson in my dress blues. Was 117 degrees, thought I was going to pass out. Yes, the oven analogy fits. They have t-shirts there with skeletons on lawn chairs. They say “Yes, but it’s a dry heat” Hated it, couldn’t wait to leave. Got used to it, then didn’t want to go then. So, of course, they then transferred me to Wichita KS. Can you say-heat and humidity-with a few tornadoes?
And if no one has said it lately-thanks for what you’re doing now. A lot of civilians have no clue the sacrifices that people in the military/contractors and their families go thru during times like this. If you haven’t “been there, done that” you can read all the magazines/newspapers(written by who?) that you want but it’s just not the same as being there. Especially when your thankless job isn’t supported by misinformed people back here. Don’t get me started
Congrats bro… Not sure what part of AZ you are in, but I have yet to find a part that really sucked – Quite a few folks on here are Zonies… and more are coming here.
Don’t it suck trying to buy a house with VA? I retired last year and had to deal with large by wide loads of shit to finally get someone that didn’t look at me like a second class citizen, because I wanted to use my VA Cert – hell, 26 years of dreaming about settling down in your own home, and people act like you were trying to rip them off when you say “I would like to use my VA loan.”
But, it don’t mean nothing… stay safe till you get here and enjoy.
Thanks for the words. Despite the negative press there are alot of people here busting their asses to make it work. For anyone that was here in '05, '06, '07 the changes are very evident.
It’s great to hear that things have improved there in Iraq. I spent 25 months in Baghdad from 10/04-11/06 and got IED’d, shot at, mortared, etc. We lost 17 of our contingent and had about 60 wounded over that time. Glad you got to use the fruits of your labors and sacrifices for something permanant.
