Field Mowers/Brushcutters & Wood Chippers

So we’ve closed on our piece of property and are commencing to put in an access road, moving some fences, etc. Now I’m going to need some decent equipment to handle some of the chores. First and foremost, I want to get a good-quality mower/brushcutter to maintain the berm of our access road and a tough wood chipper to handle the smaller limbs/branches when clearing timber.

Probably the most efficient way to do this would be a tractor with PTO powered equipment. However, that entails more of an investment than I’m prepared to make at this point. I’ve made a deal for a very nice, used Honda ATV and I want to find some self-powered equipment I can tow behind the ATV.

I’ve looked at several different brands but one that keeps popping up is DR Power Equipment (http://www.drpower.com/?cm_mmc=CPR-Confirmation-_-CPR-Inq-_-Header-_-DR-Header&src=HL65664XI2940000). They spend a ton on advertising, the equipment is not cheap, but it does look pretty good.

Anybody have any experience with this company and their products? Or have recommendations for other manufacturers who produce durable, dependable tow-behind field mowers/brushcutters and wood chippers?

I would advise aginst the use of thouse products. My wife and I found ourselves in a very similar situation a few years back. A 4WD tractor is realy your only option, the other products are just not intended for the use you have in mind. They are ment for light use. I got lucky and my neighbors both had tractors a little bartering on our parts has proved very usefull. I paid for fuel and they did the rest.

I guss what I am saying is if you have people close with equipment try and strike a deal until you can afford to buy your own.
