FF Hanguard Question

I have a Colt 6920 that I’m tinkering with. It’s primarily used to help a rancher control his feral hog population. Essentially, it sees no tactical use whatsoever. That being said, I am looking at installing a JP VTac modular handguard (lack of tactical use eliminates need for quad rail but I’d still like to have a mount for a light on the handguard). I’ve looked at a few others, but I think I like the features of the JP the best.

Thoughts? Opinions?

You can mount lights on standard handguards if you want.

yeah, I’ve thought about that…and the bayonet lug mount. But I like the solid feel a free float gives.

What about the Knight’s M4 Carbine RAS it’s a 2 piece system that allows a sturdy base without any major modifications. A bunch of LE guys are putting those on their duty weapons as well as being milspec.

I thought about something like the Knights…What about the Troy MRF-DI for a lot less $$$.

The Troy MRF-DI arn’t free float acording to their web site:

“The Troy MRF-DI is a non free floating direct replacement for all M4/M16 carbine plastic hand guards.”

Midwest Industries has a Free Float rail for about $20 to $30 than the MRF-DI. I’m very happy with mine.

If all you want to do is mount a light, buy a MI #01 and attach the light to your FSB.

Yup. What he said.

If you must have free float the DD Omega seems to be the front runner. Free float, self installed, and competitively priced.

Ok, good info…but second question. Will I gain accuracy with a free-float? It shoots just under 1.5moa right now with the factory trigger (slightly honed for better feel). If not, then I might go for a DI unit, or just mount to the FSB like ya’ll said.

If its shooting well enough to please you, dont screw with it. Mount the light to the bottom of your handguard with a bolt on pic rail or put it on the fsb.
