Just picked up the Fenix product line to carry in my store. The first one i reviewed was the TK-12 and was highly impressed with the product. Would like to know your opinions on this brand?
I think they are a fine product. I prefer to buy Surefire most of the time as I know they are top quality product and I prefer to support an American company. That being said Surefire is expensive and so I do have some Fenix lights as well because I think they are a quality light and a bit cheaper.
Have only used the small single AAA one for a keychain light, but it has held up to getting dropped, stepped on, etc pretty well.
I know have 2 Fenix lights and have had quite a few Surefires. I think the Fenix are every bit as good. Granted they are made in China but for the price they are hard to beat.
I ordered the LD01 stainless steel in this last shipment but have not had a chance to test it.
I have (3) TK11’s. My recommendation is to buy the newest model with the R5 head. It is that much better than the older models.
The one with the R5 head is mounted on my rifle. The other just sits as a just in case light. The last one is my daily use light. It bangs around in my messenger bag and gets used for whatever comes up, from walking the dog at night to fixing cars/bikes at my shop.
Excellent lights at a great price.
I have a TK12R5 and the new PD31. Awesome lights. Only complaint was that the threads needed a little grease. I absolutely love the new lithium 18650 batteries.
I do not buy communist chinese products when there are quality USA Made alternatives.
I have maybe a half dozen Surefire lights, and a lot more have come and gone. I have also owned 3 Fenix lights… 2 were great, one went down on a night snowshoeing trip with one fall to the ground.
The other 2 have run flawlessly. For around town, they get pocket time, but I will only carry a SF in the backcountry.
Nice light for the money, which is a relative term.
I’m a big Surefire fan but owned a TK-11 for over a year and had nothing but a good experience with it. However, I upgraded the light to the TK-15. It is so much brighter.
Forget where they are made, it is not a concern. They’re quality lights, bottom line. I’ve had TK10 for three years, and its been great. The only minus is that it is too heavy to mount on a rifle, IMO, but it is a real sturdy light to carry around.
I have 2 tk12 r5 and on pd30r4. For a carry outdoor light you cant beat them. While back packing a couple of months ago I dropped my tk12 down the side of a 50 enbankment smaked into all kinds of stuff. Still works great just a couple of scratches on the finsh. the are GTG.
Too bad you do not also refrain from posting in threads about them when you have nothing to offer.
I have a TK11 and I really like the light
SureFires are designed and assembled in the USA from both domestic and foreign components.
Silver backed XRE emitters are made in China, white ones are made in USA. Let me guess, you only buy Surefire lights with white backed XRE emitters?
I use a Fenix PD-20 R5 for my weapon light; it has had no issues thus far. I will keep tabs on the round count.
The heart of most SF lights is made in China.
The simple fact of the matter is, SureFire is not the defining customer for the bleeding edge of LED technology. That would be the folks providing industrial, automotive and residential lighting solutions for their respective industries… i.e. folks who care not where their LED fabs are located.
Beyond that, it isn’t like SureFire lights production geography matters. So what if the guy pushing the buttons on a Citizen, Makino or MoriSeki CNC machine is Chinese or American? SureFire was one of the first factories in the US to run “Lights Out,” where the whole floor could basically have bar stock aluminum shoved in one end and finished components out the other. Hell, SF’s factory is right across the street from one of the highest end CNC makers (Makino). SureFire’s price premiums primarily go to their profit margins, not employing scores of US workers…
If that is true then they certainly are not the only one.
I would bet a weeks pay that all the hoop jumping that goes along with getting NSN #'s for their product eats up a good amount of the budget.
I don’t like it when the “I’ll give up my Surefire when they pry out out of my cold dead fingers” crowd come into threads like this with negativity so they can act like they are better than everyone else because the spent $350 on flashlight.
Lets also not turn this thread into a bash Surefire thread.
Fenix offers a good quality light with good features for a reasonable price.
Surefire makes a good quality light with non-impressive features for a very, very high price.
Purchase which ever product fits your needs and be happy with it.
Well said, SF is not the end all be all to flashlight. If you only own SF then you have nothing to compare to. I own both and the Fenix is great light. But also love my SF scout its light and simple but had I not gotten a deal on it there is no way I would pay 500 bucks for a flashlight.
No, Lets not forget where they are made! Lets call it for what they are, More stolen US technology reverse engineered by Communist China who is embracing the US dollar.
As to the subject of the light itself, the ones I have seen, owned by others, seem it be well made & bright! How they hold up to use & abuse is unknown.
As for the Surefire brand, My old 6P has benn dropped more times than I can remember & made it thru a wash/dryer cycle.
It still works!
