I know someone in a similar situation. When he was 19 someone sold him a car. Well he found out later (at gunpoint) that the car he had been sold was stolen. He was arrested and convicted of a felony and now is not allowed to own a firearm. It has also given him quite a bit of trouble finding work. He is trying to get his record expunged now just so he can go hunting with his son.
Mark my words, some day they’ll expand this prohibition to misdemeanors and then on to infractions as part of their push to disarm us - “We’re not discarding the 2nd Amendment, but hey if a person is a scofflaw they certainly shouldn’t have a firearm…”
Happened years ago. Lautenberg Amendment. It cost a lot of military and law enfrcement officers their jobs as well as their rights. ![]()
Whether he stole the car or not, if he is now a mature man with no other significant incidents he should be able to hunt with his son and also protect his family in the home.
As stated before, an expungement will allow just that if granted.
Not only that, it is procedurally impossible to get your gun rights restored after a misdemeanor DV conviction in many states that do allow felons to have their rights restored. Go figure.
So a guy who spanked his bratty kid too hard in the eyes of some liberal social worker can never own a gun again because of his misdemeanor 20 years ago, but a career armed bank robber who convinces a judge that he’s “retired” from that line of work theoretically can.
