Statement of Senator Dianne Feinstein On the Mass Shooting at Virginia Tech
“My heart nearly stopped when I heard that more than 30 people had been killed at Virginia Tech today.
In an instant, the hopes and dreams of students were destroyed by a cowardly and terrible act of insane violence. My deepest condolences go to all those touched by this violence.
This mass shooting will be seared into our memories, alongside Columbine, 101 California, the University of Texas Clock Tower, and the shooting at a McDonald’s in San Ysidro, California.
It is my deep belief that shootings like these are enabled by the unparalleled ease with which people procure weapons in this country. And I believe this will reignite the dormant effort to pass common-sense gun regulations in this nation.”
Senator Feinstein is the author of the 1994 federal Assault Weapons Ban, which prohibited the manufacture and importation of 19-types of military-style assault weapons and dozens of others by physical characteristic.
The ban lapsed on September 13, 2004, despite the fact that a clear majority in the Senate voted for extension of the ban in February 2004.
Can a resident alien purchase firearms? I saw the press release was on when I was in the gym this morning, but I thought he said he was a South Korean here to go to school.
Yes. Federal law does allow someone who is a non-resident alien to purchase firearms.
Fox News just said that he was a permanent resident. If so he would just need a VA ID/DL at least 30days old, a 2nd ID with the same address as the ID/DL, his ‘green card’ and 3 consecutive bills (like a utility bill) showing that he’s been here at least 90 days.
It was a “victory” by people who see things her way that denied VT students the right to carry.
Denied them the right to live to see today.
That “victory” created a big sheep pen for a wolf to feed upon.
People like her should be hiding under a rock today, ashamed to show themselves.
In my dream world-
People who have soapboxes like she does would be using them today to talk about how this was the result of “safe zones” or “gun-free zones”, and how the need to pass concealed carry laws is greater than ever. Any panic legislation that resulted from that tragedy would be in favor of concealed carry and the right to self protection.
What better place to sell life boats than next to a shipwreck.
Can anyone really be surprised that an agenda pushing power hungry troll like her would exploit the deaths of those people to flex her political muscle.
Isn’t not having firearms available really what contributed to the number of people killed? In Israel I saw armed teachers and students numerous times and no problems directly attributable to the people being armed. As much as I believe the police want to help us, we must ultimately be responsible for our own personal safety. To see the logic here is not helpful or useful in the real worldti those who live in their fantasy, idealized world. If you only allow some people to carry in limited venues that cannot guarantee your safety aren’t you being exposed to the very people you don’t want to be armed amongest those who follow the rules and are disarmed by it. Any criminally minded individual will go find people that are not allowed the tools of self defence to prey upon. The use of such a tragedy for gain for a politically disreputable issue and politician is immoral, incorrect, and reprehensible. I wish that people would not grant people like this any time to espouse such flawed thinking and lack of respect for the very victims of the policies they wish to further.
