Feed Ramps

I couldn’t find a thread to answer this question. What is the reasoning for M4 feed ramps? Please get as technical as possible. I am trying to educate myself on as many things AR as possible. I want to be able to answer a question that someone else asks me properly.

they were created to remedy feeding problems the M4 had because of its high bolt velocity due to higher gas pressures M4s ran vs rifle and midlength gas systems

Thanks man. That was awesome info. Guess I didnt look hard enough.

Several of my older rifles have no M4 feedramps. No problems . Don’t see it as an issue as long as receiver and barrel both either have them or don’t

it was mainly an issue with automatic firing, but they sell it in AR15s for added features, dont really need it

Feed ramps matter a good bit if you shoot/hunt with soft points.
