PFC15400 is the 2-3/4" shell, while PFC15700 is the 3" version with 12 pellets. Any reviews of the latter?
I use Federal PFC154 9 pellet 00 buckshot for my FNH 18" SLP for HD. It extends the range since It has a flitecontrol wad.
If I remember correctly it isn’t much better than a 15 pellet load. It does not give the night and day difference as it does in 2 3/4 shells.
I used to want to shoot the biggest/hotest/magnum ANYTHING, But in my experience the 3 inch shells really do not do anything with Buckshot that a 2n3/4 won’t.
The only thing I shoot now is the 2n3/4 Federal Flitecontrol because it has less recoil and patterns the best for my purposes out of my guns.
Just because a shotgun patterns well with a 2n3/4 does not mean it will pattern as well with the 3 inch. I believe the PFC15700 has the Flitecontrol wad so if it patterns well and you can handle/control it, GO For It.
I have fired many 3" 12pellet w/flight control and they work great in my benelli m4. Fist-sized patterns at 15 yards. 8-9" patterns at 25yards. 13" patterns at 35yards. Beyond that i use slugs, foster/brenneke green lightning/brenneke max barrier penetrator depending upon the situation.
My patterns with non-flight control 23/4" or 3" 9/12/15 pellet loads are more than twice as large.
BTW, i use an improved-cylinder choke.
