Anyone have experience with the Federal American Eagle .223 75gr TMJ - AE223T75? This looks to be a new offering from them. If so, how is accuracy and how well does its POI compare to Speer’s 75gr Gold Dot?
For 39 cents per round I think it could be a good training ammo if it shoots the same as the Gold Dots.

The .223 came out right after the Valkyrie round was released. Kind of like saying “F it, we’ll make a .223 too since we’ve got the bullets anyway”

Velocity looks to be around 2560 from a 16" barrel.
Kinda slow but nbg for 300 yards and in. I get 2630 average out of 24 grains of Ramshot Tac under a Hornady 75 HPBT, and could probably push another 0.5 grains safely.
So I got the 75gr TMJ in today and took some quick pictures of it compared to the AE 55gr 223 (AE223BK) and Speer 75gr Gold Dots. AE 55gr on left, 75gr in middle, and Gold Dot on the right.
Weather permitting, I am hoping to shoot some groups this weekend and compare the 75gr TMJ to Speer 75gr Gold Dot, AE 55gr 223, Asym Reman 55gr 223, MEN 56gr 5.56, CBC 62gr 5.56, and Asym 77gr 223. Minnesota decided to skip fall and go straight to Winter, and we have anticipated snow on Saturday.
Cool. Thanks for posting pics. I wish Federal would quit crimping .223 pressure ammo. I keep getting it mixed in with our 223 brass and have to sort it for crimp removal.
I had a chance to go to the range today to compare this to some other ammo. Temperature was around 38 to 40 degrees Fahrenheit. Please note, I am not a good bench shooter, this was just me doing a quick comparison.
These two groups were at 50 yards with my suppressed build. Barrel is a 12.5" Centurion Arms and the optic was an Aimpoint Comp M5. The rifle has about 4k rounds through it, all suppressed.
I also did some groups at 100 yards using my KAC SR15 Mod 1 that has a Razor 1-6 on it. Again, temperature was around 38 to 40 degrees Fahrenheit. I zeroed this rifle using the MEN 56gr 5.56.
I also did some comparisons with Asym 55gr 223 reman, AE 55gr 223, and MEN 56gr 5.56. My rifle really likes the Asym 55gr and equally dislikes the AE 55gr.
Anyone have more experience with this, especially at distance? I’m wondering if it’d be a waste of money to try this at 500m vs standard 55gr AE.

I used it all season last year for competition. I took it out to 475 with a 1-4x on a 16” on steel chest plates. It worked well enough I’m not considering switching to OTMs.

Interesting. Velocity seems quite a bit lower than standard M193 (not a surprise) so I wasn’t sure if it work well, but I assume it’s a little bit more accurate and consistent which makes up for that?

My agency switched from 62gr to 75gr American Eagle for practice ammo shortly after we switched to 75gr Gold Dot for duty ammo. We’ve been really impressed with the 75gr AE accuracy for practice ammo. Especially compared to the horrible accuracy the 62gr AE gave us (2.5-3 MOA). I shot a bunch of the 75gr AE in a designated marksman / long range carbine course this week, and it maintained around 1.5 MOA accuracy out to 500 yards out of a chrome-lined barrel with 4x scope. Plus, it bucked the wind better than the lighter bullets the other students were using. It has a lot of drop due to its slow velocity, but the consistency is worth it compared to the less accurate but flatter shooting 62gr AE that we used to use.
