The Cabela’s version has black back straps too. Looks like some new subtle changes though. I’ve always thought the FDE M&P’s were sharp looking.
LGS has them for like $550 all day. I didn’t realize these were rare.
Very little, if any difference. Grant actually used to carry the FDE MP9, long before Cabela’s had the exclusive on them. Originally, they shipped with FDE backstraps and black slide. I believe that they also pre-date the VTAC model. I purchased a cabela’s model last year and they also had the compact in FDE. This is my third FDE M&P. The first one was purchased from Grant a long time ago.

Good to know, I had no idea they sold FDE 9mm M&Ps years ago outside of Cabela’s. They must be reintroducing them, I like the FDE look on the M&P.
Yeah, Grant used to sell them for a brief period of time and then they were gone. I bought the one pictured above last year at cabela’s as a range and carry kit. Glad to see them available to the dealer network again.
How do you like that AAC barrel? Mine should be here Tuesday.
If someone wants a FDE backstrap for one of the more recent two tone full size M&P 9mm models, give S&W customer service a call. Odds are they’ll ship one out to you for free.
It’s part # 392520000 for small, # 392530000 for medium, and # 392540000 for large, same as the FDE backstraps for the full size frame M&P .45. They’re also available from Brownells and a few other retailers online.
Got a midsize 45 FDE. Getting plugs for the safety is easy.
Thank you
How do the safety plugs secure? Any chance of them coming loose & interfering with the operation of the gun?
Just got it and I put about 100 rounds through it a couple of days ago. Shoots slightly to the right compared to the factory barrel. Groups seem to be similar, but I’ve not shot it past 15 yet. I got it because it was the only LH threaded metric barrel I could find and I’ve got a Tirant 9 that should be approved in a few days. It’s made by storm Lake for AAC.
The way they fit into the frame won’t allow them to fall out or into the gun. Most non-safety M&Ps have shipped with plugs installed for a few years now.
Has anyone seen these in the stores yet? T
I saw the carbon one yesterday… It looks like Sh!t
I just came back from a local gun store, and they had a M&P9c with the carbon finished frame in stock.
Pictures do not do this gun justice. It is much uglier in person. I kept being reminded of those posters that if you stair at long enough, the hidden picture is seen in 3D. Whomever the marketing genius at S&W who thought the carbon finished guns would be a seller should be fired.
I would have liked to see the FDE gun though, that has my attention.
Faux carbon fiber printing is one of the dumbest things I’ve ever seen. You can instantly turn anything into a turd by simply screen printing that pattern onto it.
I just went on S&W’s website to have a look. If they are uglier in person, then I don’t care to see one. WTF are they thinking?
Must have hired somebody new from Sig maybe!! :fie:
Its funny you thought that about them. I thought the exact same thing when I saw them at SHOT. Id really love to know what the folks at SW were thinking. It looks absolutely terrible. The hydro dip looks absolutely terrible. I will be buying an FDE compact as they are available at the distributor for sure but the carbon fiber, yuck. If they close them out for dirt cheap in a couple months when they don’t sell Ill buy one and refinish it.
I don’t know who these lunatics are that think faux carbon fiber actually looks like anything other than faux carbon fiber.
Not sure what’s worse, the hydro dip or that there’s probably some guys out there that are excited about it. I usually try not to be too judgmental about people otherwise minding their own business, but damn.
Rumor has it that Pete Carroll thought the Carbon Fiber looking frames was a great idea.

So we know the carbon ones look like sh!t… So when should the fde’a be available? Every place here only has the sh!ty looking ones.
