FDE Color Photo Comparison Request

Does anyone have a photo to compare Magpuls FDE to a Daniel Defense FDE rail system. I couldn’t come up with anything in a search and was curious how close of a match the colors are. Thanks.

the DD FDE i’ve seen are darker and browner- it’s been refered to as more “puke” than FDE

my next DD rail will be in FDE

I hope this helps…

Vltor E-Mod Buttstock, Troy Sight, Magpul Magazine, TangoDown VFG, and Daniel Defense Omega Rail - Only the sight and the rail differ in color from what is generally though of as FDE. The rest match very well, but the angle of the surfaces catch the light differently so you might see variations.

I think I have what you want to see.

I have a few that show the DD and Magpul together… depending on the lighting, there are different tones/ shades imparted on the viewer.

A couple more…

You should send that to O’Reilly.

Perfect! Thanks to everyone especially Stickman. Those are awesome photos!

Magpul XTM panel covers and MOE grip in FDE, Tangodown stubby in FDE/tan, DD Mk18 RIS II is brown, LMT SOPMOD stock in brown.

Bolt, receiver, barrel, scope mount, & rings, bottome metal and mag are in Norrels moly resin in desert tan. Scope, stock and scope lenses caps are in Duracoat tactical dark earth brown.

VLTOR stock and Magpul MIAD and PMAG in FDE. FF tube in Duracoat tactical dark earth brown. To the naked eye the tube doesn’t look as light as it does in this picture.

Mine looks like a freakin crayola crayon drawing:( compared to Stickmans (aka The Ansel Adams of AR’s) photos. Gotm4 is only a notch or so below, lets see how about Alfred Eisenstaedt for gotm4.

yours is an troy, no?

8mm,

Glad you liked them, and happy to be of help.

Yes indeed it is a Troy:o, I was testing you guys to keep you on your toes. Yeah that’s it a test, that is my story and I’m sticking to it. Now move on nothing to see here:D.

You climb Stick?

Pre-BD U stem camalots, forged friends, cord slung hexes, and Lowe Ball Nuts…something tells me you’re an old school trad-daddy!

im just trying to temporarily derail the thread and ask what you think of it. ? I keep buying DDs, and think I should broaden my horizons. especially since the troys are a little less expesive. I was even looking at an MI for this build, but in the en couldn’t bring myself to do it. ordered a DD lite this morning.

I like it, the installation was quick simple and the fit is very tight with no movement.(of course as a drop in system it is not a free floated rail but I knew that when I bought it, even though I forgot what brand it was:D) The KAC vertical fore grip was brought back from Iraq by my Son after his first deployment. Due to the location of my front sling loop and being that it is not a quick detach fore grip I do have to separate the upper from the lower to remove it from the rail.

Additionally I have been trying to decide what flashlight and mount I want and have attached a few different ones belonging to friends, point being that while doing so the rail has accepted the different mounts easily attachment was solid and the rail shows no signs of scratching or marring. BTW I purchased the rail from Grant of G&R for what I felt to be a good price and received a free 30rd mag as well(Not sure if the free mag deal is still available).

My best has been a 5.11c/d lead placing my own gear. I used to think you were a little wussy girl if you used bolts, but I had 3 or 4 pieces of gear blow out while climbing in the Del Water Gap area, and I took a loooong fall. I ended up face to face with my belay slave, we both were there in the air dead quite looking at each other not knowing what to say. With that in mind, bolting is all good, though I still hump a rack with me if I’m going out.

5.11c on gear ain’t bad (lot harder than I can pull), the DE water gap is choss central, the one time I went there I pulled off two handfulls of loose rock in a row and called it a day before I placed a piece. The gunks are too close for me to try and justify the water gap anymore. Hope that fall was clean, hearing gear pop is one of the scarriest sounds in the world, IMO.

The Gunks are my favorite climbing spot in the world. 11s are a thing of the past for me, its been awhile, but I would be happy to clean 7s and 8s currently.
