FBI Says Detroit is Most Violent City in USA - Detroit PD Chief says FBI is wrong

DETROIT — Detroit regained the title as the most violent big city in America in 2016, witnessing more murders last year than Los Angeles, which has four times as many people, according to new FBI crime figures released Monday.

But Detroit Police Chief James Craig disputed the FBI’s numbers, stating: “Just because it’s coming out of the FBI” doesn’t mean it’s accurate.

“I reject it,” Craig said of the FBI report, saying his own data using a new software system shows violent crime went down 5% in 2016, and, has been trending downward since 2013.

“I am confident the Detroit police crime statistics are very accurate,” Craig said at a press conference Monday.

Interesting.

Seems legit, don’t see why the Detroit PD chief would lie…

You know the real question is why are Democrat run cities the most violent cities? Perhaps the FBI can do a full profile correlation on that as well.

But Detroit Police Chief James Craig disputed the FBI’s numbers, stating: “Just because it’s coming out of the FBI” doesn’t mean it’s accurate.

Isn’t FBI Info based on UCR submitted to FBI by city?

Yes, it is. If you read the article, the Chief said the numbers the FBI used in one category are not the same numbers Detroit submitted.

I like to think that I pretty thoroughly dissected the FBI’s LEOKA statistics every year. Every year at some point I’d find something that didn’t add up with their numbers. I know we are talking Crime in the United States numbers here, same deal, though, each state compiling their numbers and sending them in, then the FBI UCR folks massaging them all together to create a national report.

That being said, the Chief is arguing semantics. Pretty hard to say you not the most violent city when your murder rate is higher than anyone else’s, and he admits those numbers are correct.

Is that a serious question?

Now, now hear him out.

Marion Barry said once that aside from all the murders that DC had the lowest crime in the country.

He was also a hardcore crackhead but still
…

If it wasn’t, it should be.

If I was a betting man I would have went with Chiraq as the most violent US city, but Detroit it is.

A lot of these numbers get cooked by PD’s/cities to make themselves look better than they actually are. This is done by how they “re-classify” crimes when reporting as all data is computed from those reports.

There is another angle as well, modern medical technology saves more lives in trauma centers than ever before. Cities that report their murders are down still have the same and sometimes even higher number of violent assault cases it’s just that doctors are saving more people’s lives.

As someone once said, “Lies, damn lies and statistics.”

Crime rates are almost divination and are manipulated by under reporting, reclassification and a dozen other methods used to fudge the numbers.

Well, answer the man’s question, then.

I’d like to hear what you come up with.

This is how we get all those poor little “children” being victims of gun violence, when the truth is a bunch of 17, 18, 19 year old gang bangers offing each other.

Why should I answer for Democrat held territories? If anyone should answer why they’re the worst in the country per capita on violence, don’t you think it should be them? If I lived in Chiraq or Detroitistan, I’d certainly be asking the city leaders why they can’t deal with violence. Does the mainstream media ever ask them? No. Is that out of professional courtesy?

The CNN article indicates the Homicide Rates per 100,000 population are:

St. Louis - 60
Baltimore - 51
Detroit -45

In my personal experience, I observed the UCR criteria for reporting violent crimes in each category change over the years and I find most numbers, other than the raw number of homicides, suspect.

Because it’s his city and he doesn’t want to appear as though he isn’t doing his job. That’s why. Large portions of Detroit are literally a third world country.

That’s part of it. Also have seen a lot of shit written off as something other than homicide when it really, really looked a lot like a homicide. Got to see the working of a large metro agency once from the inside for a brief time, I never looked at the news the same way again. It wasn’t just “eye opening”, it was “holy effin crap I can’t believe you guys are getting away with this and that you’ve been doing it for so damn long it’s now some kind of SOP.”

I remember seeing an actual directive in writing (rare) which had deputies reporting serious assault as simple assault, robberies as property damage and directing them whenever possible to NOT assign a case number to any call out. As a result crime was down that year, even though actual crime didn’t change at all and probably went up a little.

I just thought you’d be able to come up with something.

Would be a funny SNL skit where the cities are at the award ceremony and they have cameras on actors for East saint Louis, Chicago, Detroit, New Orleans and Newark… and the winner is… and it goes full Tarantino from there.

Sorry it didn’t come through better. I was being sarcastic.

I think anyone with two brain cells to rub together could, but that’s not the point.
