I use #2 position from SouthNarc’s drawstroke. Your arm is at a 45 degree angle to your torso, your gun arm thumb is flagged against your pec to allow the slide to clear your body. You know you have it right if you feel tension in the bicep of the gun hand. Your wrist should be in line with your forearm.
Thanks AT,
Where is the other arm? Got a reference for any photos?
RH,
The other arm could be either in a horizontal elbow, with the non-firing palm resting on your firing shoulder or a vertical elbow, with your non-firing bicep making contact with the cheek on that side and the palm cupping your head. Or the non-firing hand could be in play, controlling the threat.
I would suggest you check out www.totalprotectioninteractive.com - Southnarc’s forum. It does require registration (free) and has a lot of material on ECQC.
Here are a few links I found that you should be able to access after registering:
My favorite handgun retention position is a left-handed Weaver stance with the Smith 637 I just drew from my left front pocket, while the bad guy is trying to figure out why the pretty gun he just snatched from my duty holster won’t shoot. (answer: cause it’s a 1911 with the right-sized and non-ambidextrous A1 thumb safety) Okay, so that’s a handgun recovery position. ![]()
