any help to identify the FAL i picked up couple days ago, i have checked else where but seeking more info if i can, this rifle i new to me. any feed back is greatly appreciataed thanks. what i know is the lower receiver# matches the barrel # and also on the barrel says KAL 7.62
a friend of mine has a century built and noticed the feed ramps differs his own is smooth striaght through, although mine is different

You have yourself a rifle built using a Brazillian Imbel receiver, which was built in a factory licensed by FN, and a kit from an Austrian surplus StG-58.
The barrel and lower are definitely Steyr, anyway.
The buttstock is a typical humpback style that everyone except the Austrians used. It could be an American copy for parts count compliance.
Most likely built up by someone during the Golden Age of FAL kit building, about ten years ago, since that has a muzzle brake welded onto the barrel.

Receiver = Brazil
Lower = Austria
Stock = USA
Barrel = Austria
Compesnator = USA
Bolt/Carrier = Austria
Selector = USA
Hadguards = Brazil
Scope = Japan
Topcover = China
Pistolgrip = USA

As far as your feed ramp goes, your’s is correct. Your buddy has a Century “unibrow”, which is a cost saving way to make the cuts, and not the way FN or other licensed manufacturers did it.
Looks like the barrel date is '59 too. Very cool. Back in the 1990s when these kits were cheap I had one that was very close to this date & serial # range.
Everything points to an early S/N Type I StG kit built up using a Type III Imbel upper. receiver. I did an arsenal refinished StG kit in the 36XXX range plus a couple of very late s/n kits that were Type IIs - the late ones were not arsenal refinished. I used DSA Type II uppers on the later ones, not that it really mattered.
Your Type I lower receiver could even be a G1 (German, made by FN), but most likely it’s StG because it appears to have the arsenal refinish - dark black from the bluing process that was used. StG and G1 lowers are both marked S-E-D. Imbel and South African lowers are marked S-R-A with the Imbels being a Type III while the SA lower is a Type II.
One of my Type II StGs in original Styer configuration - except the HG is a DSA (US made compliance part). The early StG humpback wooden stock is from my my low S/N kit.

If you wanna excellent scope mount top cover , lose the B-square and get a DSA mount … a million times better…trust me on this!! 
I like the mount from GunPartsGuy.com the best. Sets lower than the DSA and fits tight as hell.

Those are Leupold QRW rings - IIRC, I used Low rings on the compact Leupold, but I’m not positive.
A low mount allows for a proper cheek weld, which works very well for me. Enough eye relief to mount the rear bell in front of the rear sight is a good thing also.

update on some mods i did to my fal, ordered some stuff from brad at gun things, thanks brad. heavy barrel hg(modified to fit light barrel) stock, came in blond color but stained it to red mahogany. ive always liked these handguards and stock
bm176, that looks really nice. The HB hand guards look great. I have a brand new set of HB’s myself, but with the small retaining ring for standard guards I have been mulling over how I am going to modify them to fit.
How did you get them to fit? Someone selling an insert ring or fitting piece for the back of the guards?
My G-1 has great wood, I would love to fit my HB’s on it.
I’d like to point out that the FAL scope mount sold by GunPartsGuy is/was a Leapers product:
I have no comments about whether that mount is better or worse than the DSA or ARMS FAL mounts.
I only mention this because the GunPartsGuy.com website has been down for a while now and I’d like to point out alternatives for those who desire to purchase that specific mount. If the GPG website were still up, I probably wouldn’t mention this.
For those who wish to order that particular scope mount, Midway sells the FAL Leapers mount, as do some of the other Leapers distributors.
FWIW, I have absolutely zero interest in the product – that means neither a financial nor an ego investment.
