Fake accessories, fake everything!

I’m sure it’s been discussed before but I’m really appalled at the amount of fake AR/M4 accessories that are out there on the market. I guess I didn’t realize how much of it was out there. The thing that is scary is that how much of it looks and feels legit. Alot of the Magpul stuff I have seen is sold under the PTS name so at least that’s something. I recently handled a Surefire M910 vertical grip weapon light that was a copy but the only difference I could tell was that it didn’t have any s/n on it.

I know Asia is very good at copying almost anything but it’s awful. A couple of quick internet searches led me to copies of LMT, LaRue, VLTOR, Magpul, Dueck Defense RTS, Surefire, Trijicon, Knight and more.

I also love the hypocrisy of ebay. They refuse tons of gun items because of their rules, but go ahead and sell as much counterfeit items as you please! I guess the only lesson/solution is to make sure you only buy from trusted sources.

Anyway, that’s my rant.

Been a real problem for years now. Honestly though, I don’t know why or how the consumer gets caught up in this BS. If you purchase your gear from a known, quality dealer (like the ones found on this forum), you are ALWAYS going to get the real deal.

Think about and take a look at the airsoft market. IIRC some of the toys are actually licensed by Colt, LMT, KAC. It’s crazy.

The weird part is that lots of airsofters want real accessories for their guns, not the Chinese knockoffs. They often end up paying “real steel” prices for their weapons, too.

The tactical supply/military surplus store in our area sells 2/3 of his inventory to airsofters. Kids spending $600 to kit up in top of the line gear that’s better than I carried into Iraq! Where are they getting their money for this shit!

You said it all! That’s why I deal with you, BCM and other similar dealers without worry. :dance3:

Mommy and daddy gave them their allowance… For not doing shit around the house. I knew a few guys in college who were still getting an allowance ALONG with their school being paid for.

On a side note, I am also disgusted by the fake crap everywhere. When I was new to firearms I bought what I thought was an Aimpoint Comp M2 on eBay. Not until a more knowledgeable friend told me did I realize it was a Chinese piece of fake shit. F*cking people need their assed kicked. It seems like its becoming prevalent with just about every brand, from the obvious Magpul to KAC and DD.

You get what you pay for. Most fooled by knockoffs are trying to get quality equipment for pennies on the dollar and get what they paid for. :dirol:

uh magpul actually licenses the PTS brand for airsofters. Makes sense instead of trying to fight counterfeiters you might as well have some control and get a cut from it. They dont use the same polymer as they do on the firearm accessories. It even clearly says PTS on those products.

I think this also depends on the person though, not everyone is charging into war or busting down doors.

I know when I go to the range and people ask me how much everything on my setup cost I commonly hear, “That too much for me to spend when Im just plinking”. Don’t get me wrong - I am not LEO or MIL, I just figure if I am going to buy something, do it right the first time.

Unfortunately with the economy and people’s mentalities in relation, not as many people are as willing to drop top dollar on kit and accessories.

What KAC equipment do you guys find that is fake I don’t think I’ve seen any.

Ive seen fake BUIS as well as fake URX rails already.

Ive seen some people try to pass off Airsoft KAC stuff as real.

Its disturbing really.

Yup, I’m sitting on a $3K A2, with basically what equivels a real AR, has real handguards, grips, barrel, heck, it’s basically a real A2 with 100% custom lathed and machined parts. Basically hand made all the way through. People end up relating airsofters with “poser” and “clones” and not many of them realize that some of us have airsoft guns worth more than double what some of their “high end” guns run.

This is why I stopped going to the gunshows in my area. Chinese and fake crap everywhere.

$3k for a toy?

Why? So you can shoot the fat, slow kid at 25 feet instead of 20?

It reminds me of a recent craigslist ad where a gun wants to buy your BB guns for his ‘man cave’, regardless of condition…

Dear god WHY?

The question why could become why not. He may use it for training and wants the exact setup mirrored as in his regular weapon. I know several people who buy expensive scopes or RDS like AP Micro for a 22 when in reality you could get by with a bushnell rds. But it could be that they want the expensive stuff to swap over to another Platform in an upgrade situation or when their younger child groes up to have a real weapon they can just move it over without buying twice? just playing devil’s advocate.

I recently saw a KAC rear buis on amazon for 70 bucks. Fake? It looked legit.

I think I’ve gotten fake magpul rail covers off amazon. They were sold as magpul but came in a generic plastic bag when I received them. I didn’t like that style cover as it turned out anyway.

PTS is licensed by Magpul.

If you pay attention a lot of the “fake” stuff is the lower quality licenses air soft replicas.

I think the complaint is about the numerous eBay and airsoft sellers who sell counterfeit Magpul items as “PTS” or “Airsoft” items.
