I just bought a bushmaster AR 15 and the first day i took it out i fired a 30 round clip and took the clip out and closed the bolt with the bolt release button on the left side, then put a new mag in then loaded it again, it fired the first shell and ejected it but didn’t load another shell. But a friend told me to load a shell in and take the clip out and fire the round then put the clip back in and load it and see if that worked, so i did and it worked. But my question is why wouldn’t it load another shell after i closed it with the bolt release button?
elsworth,
Just a few things. It’s called a magazine, not a clip. It uses ammunition, bullets or rounds.
-
Have you cleaned and inspected the weapon? I would do so. And I would read the operator/ owner manual.
-
Did you properly lubricate the weapon before you fired it?
-
What type of ammunition were you using?
mag seated fully?
I like you Iraq Gunz. Not in a gay way though ![]()
may not have completely seated the magazine- this is common with a fully loaded mag placed in rifle with bolt closed. Many people including me download 30 round magazines to 28 or 29 rounds to make it easier to seat the magazine with the bolt closed. I also teach people to tug down on the mag after insertion to make sure it is locked in place- I have seen MANY examples in both pistol and rifle of mags falling out after a speed reload because it was not fully seated.
It’s a BM(bowel movement); what did you expect?:thank_you2:
I’ll be taking over the question for my friend with the Bushmaster to get an answer for him. First of all, I have to apologize to the elitists who don’t approve of slang terms when dealing with firearms. He is very sorry for using “clip” and “mag” interchangeably; the same goes for the ammo.
Secondly, I wanted to clarify his question. Upon depleting his magazine of ammunition, he ejected said magazine and pressed the bolt release. He then inserted a loaded magazine and chambered a bullet (yes, the mag was seated properly, and thank you for the mag tug test). He believes that closing the bolt before inserting a new magazine was what led his firearm to enter what he said was a single-fire mode when the weapon ejects the spent cartridge and fails to load a new bullet.
His question is why the weapon operates in this fashion.
Thanks for your consideration and understanding.
answers to Iraqgunz’ questions:
-
He read the operation manual, cover to cover, the day that he brought it home.
-
We took the entire weapon apart, inspected each piece, and ensured that every component was properly lubricated and functioning appropriately. Everything is factory fresh.
-
He was using Wolf Lacquered rounds per the ill advice of his gun dealer. He has since switched to the non-lacquered Hot Shot .223 Remington.
Please do not start wtih the elitist crap. it has nothing to do with elitism. It is about the terminology that is in common and proper in use.
So has the problem been solved at this point because I am confused by your post.
If he closed the bolt before the magazine was inserted then a round was not chambered and the weapon won’t fire. If I am reading this wrong then please correct me.
Pump your brakes, cupcake. You came here, not the other way around, and the man’s genuinely trying to help you. Using correct terminology is considered very helpful in diagnostic conversations, particularly over the internet. Clips are fed into magazines, magazines fed into guns. Clip = magazine isn’t slang, it’s ignorant.
Less about approval than it is making a good-faith effort to fix your shit by being able to describe it to those who might be able to help.
Check your ego and decide if you want the help or not.
I read that last as:
-weapon fired to depletion of ammo
-mag removed, bolt closed via release
-new mag inserted into the mag well (note that it’s not called a CLIP WELL ) on a closed bolt
-chamber, fire, casing ejects but new round is not stripped/chambered.
So…
-
is the bolt hanging up on the next round in the magazine and just not chambering it (can you see the bolt and brass when looking into the ejection port)?
-
or is the bolt scooting right past (over) the next round in the mag and just not catching it (bolt is closed when you look at the ej. port, no round in chamber when bolt is pulled back)?
>>clip
>>shell
>>elitists
I suppose your friend also has a Deagle as his sidearm?
