Failure to Feed

I have a complete BCM upper that I had an issue with today. I’m using Gen 3 Pmags. On the last mag of the day I had two failure to feeds. The round almost fed fine but the bolt was out of battery and the round was stuck. There’s a dent in the casing just behind the neck. I reloaded the mag and it fed fine but I left the range after that.

Any Ideas?

Without more details it’s anyone’s guess.

What kind of details?

Is it possible the round was already dented and this caused the feeding issue?

Could be but keep in mind there were two of these.

I skimmed through the rest of the 250 I have and I didn’t see anything. They were from the same lot.

You also said you reloaded the mag and the rest cycled fine. Is this a new rifle to you? How many rounds have you fired? Any previous failures?

I’ve had it since may of 2014. Approaching 2500 rounds through it, this is the only issue I’ve had.

looks like round was chambered, kicked out (rifling marks on bullet) and brass deflector dented the case causing damage leading to ftf.

What ammo?

This happened in the middle of a mag, it didn’t hit the brass deflector very hard cause I had to step on the charging handle.

IMI M193

Real IMI M193 or Independence M193?

What kind of buffer and spring do you have?

Real IMI

Vltor A5 with the standard A5H2

What’s the overall length of the cartridge? May be the angle in that pic but the neck looks a little long. Can you put that cartridge side by side with a known good cartridge?

Random from same Lot on the left.

Thanks for posting the pic. I don’t see any major differences. Is it possible that your weapon is dirty and running a little dry?

Not dirty enough to have issues and it was wet at the range

I’m going to chalk this up to a fluke unless something is being left out. The round may have had some defect that caused it to hang up on the feed ramp or one of the lugs.

This is the first time I’ve tried the ammo. I’m going to shoot the rest of it and let you guys know if there are any issues.

The ammo did come from the same 30 round box.

Thanks for the help!

I am also wondering if the round was damaged before loading. Ive seen 193 on strippers the had bad dents in the same place, not that bad, but more damage could have been done during feeding. Just a thought.
