I have a factory DD MK18 upper on the way and to my understanding, most QD suppressors will not work because the barrel is 10.3" long instead of the typical 10.5". My question is if I buy a thread on suppressor from YHM, will it fit almost flush with the RISII rail or will it not fit?
Thanks, sorry I missed this while searching.
So since no one will answer my question on that thread, will a thread on suppressor work with a factory dd mk18?
While I haven’t tried it, I’m gonna venture to say “Yes”.
Think about it this way. If the back of the threads aren’t behind the plane of the rai opening, and the suppressor body doesn’t extend backwards over the threads, there is no reason why it wouldn’t work.
Depends on which suppressor…my Huntertown Arms will fit with about a .2" clearance between rail and suppressor. It’s very close.
The yhm qd works fine. Im using it right now. The thread on yhm will not.
And for rodman, the base of the threads are posterior of the front plane of the ris II on a 10.3 barrel.
Good info. For some reason I was thinking about the threads being just in front of the RIS. Thanks for straightening me out.
Great, thanks for the info guys. Exactly what I needed to hear. I’m thinking an AAC Ranger3 will work just fine because it has a small additional space before the actual tube body extends out. Should make for just enough space.

Here’s my DD 10.3" LW with MK18 rail. You can see the shoulder is just barely behind the face of the rail. If the can has any necked down portion over the threads, I think you’d be fine. If the can has a flat back, you’d need a shim.
You will need a shim. I can’t remember the exact size but I just used a peel washer & it’s worked just fine
I might be missing something here… Issued MK18’s were 10.3". At the time when the block 2 program came about and they were using the NT4 suppressor, there was no issue with it working from what I understand unless I’m forgetting something.
Mine were all 10.5" uppers. My 9" blackout has an AAC blackout flash hider and it sits as flush as it would on a 10.3". Suppressors work just fine.
What I would not do is buy a suppressor specific to one rifle that forces you to remove a muzzle device. I wouldn’t give up quick attach/detach. So, I’d shim it if absolutely necessary, or figure some other way around it.
There are times where my rifle works better for my needs without a suppressor. I’d hate to give up a muzzle device.
I was talking with somebody at Gem-tech recently on a related topic. Apparently when their salesmen travel for demos one of the things they always take is a DD MK18 with a TREK-T.
Make of that what you will.

Nice Gem tech changed its tunes on short barrels.

Great, i think gemtech is the way I’m going to go. Worst case scenario, i just use a shim as the gemtech reps do. Their suppressors work very well on short barrels from what I saw this week. Thanks all for the info.
