Having some retro type thoughts before I jump in on things.
Using a F front sight based barrel on a C7 upper: What happens to the standard front sight, I assume it sits 0.04" lower than normal? I was thinking this is reverse of the need for a taller front sight post issue.
Could this setup work fine as is?
(Provided having a vertical mill and re-parkerizing equipment not an issue)
Would also be a possible solution to machine the inside of the FSB between the ears down 0.04" or is there more involved than what I am thinking.
Contrary to some of the nonsense you may have read on the error-net on the subject, an “F” marked front sight base will work just fine with A1/A2 receivers.
The front sight post on a standard Colt front sight base will bottom-out in the sight well at approximately 24 clicks below flush. On an “F” marked front sight base the sight “shelf” is a whopping 0.040” higher than on a standard front sight base. That means you might have to turn your front sight post down approximately 6 clicks further with an “F” marked front sight base than on a standard front sight base. (6 whole clicks difference. Oh, the inhumanity!) So unless your front sight post is set at 18 clicks below flush with a standard front sight base, using an “F” marked front sight base will be a non-issue.
I get it now. 6 clicks will be un-noticeable.

The M4 feed ramps would have to be added to a C7 upper. I have access to the machining equipment and have a friend who anodizes batches of aluminum at least weekly. This might be a interesting route to pursue.
