Extended NFA wait times

Same boat here… I just submitted my paperwork this week. I may not get to take SBR home until 2015!!!

Is this a surprise when the same administration gets “re-elected”? I believe, for it to happen again, some so called gun people had to have voted for them.

If they can’t outright outlaw NFA weapons, they can sure drag their feet long enough that enthusiasts lose interest, thus realizing at least some of their goal.

Actually they would have to issue a refund. It is my understanding you are able to get a refund up the point where you are approved and the stamp is issued.

Called to check SBR Form 1 status from my submission on 2013-01-21. Was told this information so I’m passing it on.

My Form 1 should have been approved this month according to NFATracker.com.

I feel that this extra time is somehow a punishment by the government on the citizens due to the shutdown.

You can actually get a refund even on an approved Form 4 as long as it never leaves the dealers bound book on a 4473. We’ve had a few customers who have done that.

15+ months!!? How did it go from 4 months to 15 with a 2 week vacation?

You can get a refund after a stamp is issued if the firearm is never made (in the case of a Form 1) or transferred (in the case of a Form 4).

To be clear my point has nothing to do with whether or not you can get a refund.

My point is that the recent speculation is that all pending forms would be grandfathered in lieu of the proposed rule changes for Trusts.

Given that, you’d have to refund all those checks that were cashed, where the forms had not yet gone pending. And yes there has recently been considerable delays from check cashing to pending status.

In light of those things, the NFA seems to have changed their wait times to begin at the time of receipt of forms, not at the beginning of pending status. So that if there is to be any grandfathering of trust submissions, it would seem to be based on date of receipt, not pending since date of receipt would unburden the NFA from having to refund a bunch of checks.

I’ve stepped on doggy doo by trying to anticipate or predict what might happen with proposed rule changes. It’s tricky and never easy to make clear. And, as with all predictions, it is all an exercise in futility.

Probably because the ObamaCare machine is broken beyond what they expected. I have to believe they intend to roll NFA into that system. It’s possible more people are signing up for NFA than OCare. In fact… it’s possible that part of the checks and balances of approval have to be processed through the OCare system now… How would we know?

Or… it’s a coincidence both systems fail at the same time.

I doubt that the ATF NFA E-File system is related to the HealthCare.gov web site since the systems are so distinctly different.

With the spike of gun purchases and NFA submissions I would be curious about the numbers. However, I would think the HealthCare submissions would be in the hundreds of thousands if not millions and NFA forms would be in the thousands or tens of thousands.

Health insurance is applicable to everyone somehow but NFA guns are for a small fraction of the serious enthusiasts of the small fraction of actual gun owners among the population.

A couple weeks ago I purchased a Surefire 7.62 SOCOM, but just got the paperwork out this week. I knew it was going to be a long wait, longer than when I did my SBR, but damn! 15 months? Oh well, it is what it is.

I submitted two Form 1s for SBRs on my trust 11 Feb and got them back today. I have a Form4 for a suppressor on a different trust that was submitted May 5th I"m not looking for that one anytime soon.

You also have to consider that when they started talking about doing away with the trust option how many people who were on the fence about an NFA item flooded the system with applications.

I shudder to think what wait times are like nowadays. I hate even clicking on threads like this.

Im going to be in Korea for the next 24 months. Im seriously thinking about talking my wife into buying herself a lower at the shop and sending in another form 1 so I’ll have another one waiting on me when I get home.

Tell me about it. I just sent two off and I’m patiently (lol) waiting for another suppressor to get clear to my dealer so I can get that one sent off too. I think the shut down delayed that one as it should have been done by now. Just sucks because the longer that delay takes the further down the list I go as this wait time grows and others get their paperwork in ahead of me.

That would be the way to do it! Defiantly make wait a lot more bearable. Just gotta get cleared with wife, or at least that’s my biggest problem:(.

i really hope i dont get screwed by the new trust legislation coming up… time is running out for me… I am still waiting for my form 3 to get approved from mid august and then i still have to submit my form 4… im crossing my fingers…

Good info. Another one of those “conflicting” things that you hear.

When I bought my Vector Uzi SMG in Nov 2009 I got te paperwork back on Jan 6 2010, exactly 70 days from when I mailed it in. My last suppressor took 10 months total (manufacture to dealer to me) I ordered a 22 suppressor in April, my dealer just got it the beginning of this month. I want a couple more suppressors and FA guns, but I’m getting to the point that I’m not ready to pony up serval $1,000’s for a subgun to only set and wait for 15 months to get it…

I agree that the NFA needs redone. If you can get a 4473 done in 10 minutes (or less) there isn’t any reason that Form 1 or Form 4 shouldn’t be the same way. I know that there are only 12 examiners for the entire country which doenst help. This is Gov’t bullshit at its finest!!!
