an alternative to posting all that text on the chart itself is to put the url for the main thread in the graphic. since you can’t easily hotlink to it, use this tiny url

In some ways I wish there were a way to never have the chart available without the explanation. Some of these things have grown a life of their own and the importance of some of the features has gotten blown way out of proportion. The 1:7 barrel twist is a good example of this. The VAST majority of shooters are going to stick in the 55-62 grain range, and there are rounds available that are MORE than acceptable in a defensive role that fall into this range. While it is true that 1:7 really shouldn’t have a problem stabilizing rounds in this range either, the 1:9 would be the optimal choice for most shooters IMHO.
I always get 1/7 barrels, but I honestly can’t remember the last time (other than a few zeroing rounds) that I shot anything other than 55 gr. I still like the option of utilizing the longer/heavier ammo.
yeah, i hear you Rob, but you know what they say about no good deed going unpunished.
maybe… you could make it an animated jpg and just have it be “the chart” for 8 seconds, and then be the text for 8 seconds, then back to the chart. set it for continuous loop
edit: apologies for the aol link but here’s decent explanation on how to do animated gifs http://members.aol.com/royalef/gifmake.htm
Xclnt post!!! For some of us newer to the weapon, it gives great insight and understanding of the platform. Thanks for taking the time.
Rob: Thank you for the time and dedication you have put into the research.
Rob, another idea is to put that text below the chart in Excel or import the chart into a word document with the text or even better, put it all into one PDF, and then put a disclaimer that says that this version of the chart supersedes all prior versions.
This is another great and appreciated accumulation of useful information.
One more thanks for taking the time.
Excellent job, Rob. Well done.
Yet, the closer you are to mil-spec, the closer you are to the “arms suitable for militia use” test of U.S. v. Miller (1939).
So it’s 1/7 for me.
And no AK’s.![]()
cool. Great info here
