Ever heard of mounting a suppressor onto the hand guard so that the barrel isn’t weighed down? Redonkulous? 
Not sure how that would really work…

How would the can index to the barrel? Baffle strike issues would be interesting. Could it be quick attach on/off?

Have your ever shot a suppressed AR before? Heat transfer into the hand guards would be immense, defeating the purpose of the “Hand Guards” to begin with (a device to protect your hands from the hot barrel but still hold the weapon). They definitely wont be the current crop of polymer or plastic guards. Carbon fiber maybe. Metallic alloys would be scorchers as well.
Creative idea, could lead to innovations–completely free floated barrel with suppression might be a hot ticket. Lots of real world limitations to deal with first.
oooh, good point about heat transfer. I didn’t even consider that. I’m guessing there is a reason we don’t see this as a common configuration.
Is the barrel really “weighed down” by a suppressor anyway? Does it really matter?
