Yesterday I was shopping for a 553 and when I asked if the shop I was at carried them the owner told me he doesn’t stock them anymore because, among other things such as their warranty and CS, they are made in China now. This struck me as a bit odd as I am aware of defense contracting regulations for materials of products that are manufactured are to be domestically sourced if possible first (dfars). I would assume that a similar regulation would apply to end products as well except in certain cases with allies (aimpoint, bae etc). He said that they are made in the same factory as the sightmark red dots and then proceeded to push those. Anyone else ever heard this?
I highly doubt that. EOTech sights are manufactered in the same factory as Bushnell and made in the USA. EOTech is owned by L3 Communications a huge defense contrattor based in NOVA. A quick search of the L3 Communications website yielded no links to Sightmark. This is Sightmarks parent company: http://www.sellmark.net/.
That last part gives it all away. Don’t use that place again.
He doesn’t sell EOTechs because they are supposedly made in China, but proceeded to push another optic that was “made in the same factory”? Sounds really credible.
I believe EOTechs are made in the US. There are Chinese EOTech knock-offs. Maybe he got a hold of one of those and didn’t realize what he actually had.
A quick search of EOTech’s website states that they are manufactured in Ann Arbor MI.

Plus wtf is up with the “warranty and CS” part. Their’s is regarded as some of the best out there.
They treated me well when I needed a new battery cap.
They would not be Berry Complaint if they were made in China.
They fixed my 553 and had it back to me in less than a week. Two years out of warranty too.

When he began to push the sightmarks I pretty much was done right there. I pretty much figured they and the materials would have to be Barry and dfars compliant and China would be a no go on that. I was curious if anyone had ever heard this from others. I have always had great experience with eotech also.
He also tried to convince me that the sightmarks are a holosight like eotechs, which they are not and that the reticle would not be obstructed if the lens cracked as eotechs do. I found it very hard to swallow as i noticed they use a laser like and not a hologram

Correct,…I somehow tore the covers of the buttons on my XPS2-0 removing the hood. I called them about getting it repaired. They ended up replacing the covers free of charge. Had it back to me withing a week. Outstanding service!
I’m not fond of the EOTech sights, but that dude was blowing smoke up your ass, violently. I wouldn’t spend a nickel with him again.
