I did a search here and even a Google search, but I remember reading a thread that had some pictures of an EOTech that had catastrophic failure due to the battery (AA) exploding due to the heat of outside temperature and weapon usage.
Certain brands of cheap, Chinese 123As have been blowing up; we had an M4 (w/StreamLight M3 mounted) burned up and a unit ruined (interior smoke damage) because of that.
Interstate Batteries was the brand, if anyone is interested.
Never heard of AAs giving problems due to ambient heat. In a fire, sure…
As it was explained to us by the crime lab guys, lithium batteries are SUPPOSED to have a venting system built in, to release pressure build-up if an internal short develops. Some of the el cheapo Chinese-produced 123As do not have the vents. Short= pressure build-up= exploded battery. That’s what happened here; the back plate of the M3 was blown off, and one of the battery cases was recovered in the back of the passenger compartment; sans both end caps.
The resultant fire was incredibly intense, destroying much of the rifle and surrounding clothing, etc. The crime lab folks opined that the only saving grace was that the unit windows were rolled up tight, and the fire burned up all the available oxygen before it got going really good. The unit interior was trashed, but was still drivable; so they made a prisoner transport ride out of it…
You can get lithium AAs now… wonder if the OP’s were such?
