Eotech and options...?

Well this is my first post here so I guess I can start with hello.

I just purchase a LWRC M6a2. Long story short I am in a LE position and its the only rifle you can purchase via personal buy program. Not much of an issue because it nice gun. Anyhow I was somewhat unfamiliar with the weapon and decided that I would have to get a hold of one to really become comfortable. This is a lifetime purchase so I want the thing to be spec-ed out prefect.

We are only allowed to use certain optics and currently I am very familiar with Eotechs. I am thinking about going with the XPS2-0 and the G23 combination. I figure its a good all round option for CQC and some mid-distances. My question is, is there any other comparable setups I should check out before I drop the money?

I am very comfortable with the circle and dot so I am not sure I would want to go with anything different than that.

Also how does a new member access the LE section? I can’t seem to get in.

Thanks, A

First off welcome to the forum!

You are going to get a lot of varying answers on this. A lot of us have had prior issues with EOTechs going down due to battery connection problems and/or other varying issues. While I find the EOTech to be a nice and fast reticle, I am more comfortable with Aimpoints and their reliability having used an M2, M3 and now a T-1 in a LaRue mount.

My biggest issue with the EOTech is that it shuts itself down automatically to conserve battery life. I can leave my Aimpoint T-1 turned on for over a year without having to worry about it turning itself off. While for a recreational shooter this may not be too much of an issue, when you are on a perimeter position for ten hours looking down and suddenly finding your sight turned off can just suck.

Use the search feature or scroll back aways and you’ll find a TON of good info regarding sight selection.

Based on LWRC and your screename I’d assume your DEA or another one of the alphabet soup agencies. Here are directions to access the LE forum:

Your going to find that most in the know here on this forum use/prefer Aimpoints. Their durability, battery life and proven performance can’t be beat.

I never suffered from battery shut off on my 511, but the battery life is short as it seems to pull power even when the unit is off.

I just bought an XPS-0 model of Eotech, though. And I love it so far. With the battery being in sideways, it should solve many of the battery issues people had.

An 8 hour auto shutoff isn’t that big of a deal to me (it does it to save battery life)

I guess I subscribe to the stick with what you know method. As for the aimpoint and not sure where to even start with those things. I know I like the circle with the dot. Aimpoint is just a red dot correct? Also what does aimpoint have that’s like the xps?

the H1 or T1

Yes, all Aimpoints are red dot only, varying only in size. IMHO the closest thing to the XPS would be the micro series.

Can you co-witness with the aimpoints?

Determine if you need night vision compatibility. Then determine if you want a micro or full size. I chose a ML3. I don’t need night vision compatibility and I wanted mil. spec at an affordable price. I paid about $460 or so.

No need for night vision. just magnification.

Yes you can.

You can purchase a magnifier from Aimpoint. If not, you can look at various Trijicon models.

Whats the biggest difference between the T1 and the other M models size?? Its pretty much the same dot? I am surprised that the EOtech isn’t liked more here. I would think the circle helps for getting up on sight. More so then just a dot.

It’s much more about the lack of durability and reliability. Not all Eotechs fail, but, especially the older ones, they don’t have the reputation for reliability and battery life that Aimpoints do.

I’ve used the T-1 out to 200 yards without an issue, beyond that, it’s probably pushing it on my end.

The M4S is available with a 2 moa dot which helps for longer range use, and is damn near bomb proof.

I have been running a issued Colt M4 with an Eotech 552 for about a year and a half. I have to say, I do like the large “window” of the Eotech. I do not like the fact that in about 18 months it is on its sixth set of batteries, at least they are cheap AA batteries. When it dies, it dies at the wrong time. It also seems to bump from zero enough that I have to slide it several clicks up or down, left or right every quarter. If I could change out the optic (not an option) I would invest in either the T1 or give the M4 a try.

I have the 552 on my Rock River. I would say it works great, but I have never known anything different. I have never had any problems with it, comfortable with it etc. I think I may get the aimpoint just to expand my comfort level. I mean I have never really heard any major negatives.

I just ordered a 2nd XPS-0 yesterday. I am really impressed with this sight - but then again, I’ve been suing an EOtech for a while now.

I would love to get a T1, but we don’t get to have that as an option. It looks like Eotech, or Vortex Strikefire for me. I’m choosing the xps 2

Looks like the h1 with a kz mount and a x3 with a Samson mount for 975 is the best deal I can get.

I have an Eotech 553 and I have had no issues whatsoever. I am going to order a T1 and because I am always looking for ways to lighten and get a lower profile, I am guessing that I will like the T1 better.
