I didn’t see this posted. Maybe it is old news:
http://www.foxnews.com/us/2013/12/18/end-line-for-lead-bullet-regulations-bans-force-switch-to-green-ammo/
Ammo companies have states this will have little to no impact on supply. Despite the Fox spin, this smelter provided almost none of the lead for ammo. In fact most of the lead we use in bullets comes from recycled lead which is still smelted here in the US.
Thanks Kwelz,
that is good to hear. I can imagine some sources of recycled lead-tire weights and old batteries to name a couple-that would make plenty of slugs.
The only problem is that lead is also being removed from batteries - so there goes the recycled part…
Or imported ammo becomes more of a factor than it already is.
Last I checked, the following companies aren’t buying up American smelted lead; PMC, IMI, Wolf, GGG, Prvi, etc… I hate the thought of not being able to buy American made ammo, but if it becomes an eventuality for lead core training rounds, I think I will still be able to shoot with offshore produced ammo.
The only thing that raised my eyebrow in that article was the thought that we might go back to steel pennies…
There have been four threads on the lead smelter shutdown already.
