My blood has been boiling for the last two days because the Empire State Building was lit up in red and gold colors tonight to commemorate/celebrate Communist China’s 60th anniversary.Are these people kidding me?This is the direction our country is heading in?Whats next,celebrating North Koreas birthday as well? In my eyes,this is a sad day ( one of many lately ) for our once great nation.

Shit lik this just makes me sad. This is not the country my grandfather wanted to leave me. Some of the bullshit I see makes me glad he is not here to endure it.
Well until any of you go through your own house and throw out EVERYTHING that was made in China you really have no room to bitch about it. Just think about how much money you personally contributed to China.
Not by choice as I buy American any chance I can, even if I pay a premium.

Who says you have to celebrate the holiday? It is a free country, dont celebrate it. Im confused why you care or are outraged about what lights are on a privately owned building?
I guess I just don’t like display of support for communist countries and dictators, but maybe I’m in the minority.
Well that is the price you have to pay by living here, you might have to witness people celebrating something you are against, but since you are not in NY you dont even have to witness it.
As the OP stated it was lit that way as a celebration of the communist government in China. I don’t support or celebrate anything communist and the fact that a nationally recognized symbol of New York and this country is made to display celebration of that IMHO is bullshit. Does China light up their temples in red, white, and blue to celebate with us on the 4th? I think not.
You are correct. My eyes will not be offended by having to gaze at it, but it doesn’t make me support, like, or agree with it. There are plenty of things I don’t have to see to know I would feel and be offended or even down right disgusted by. My location really has nothing to do with it.
I just think that things like this show the continual degredation of our country and what it was suppose to stand for.
Ask a soldier over seas if they would be offended by the display of communist China colors on a national symbol to celebrate their communist government. Keeping in mind that they will probably not see it either. I doubt you would get a lot of support.
It is still a privately owned building. Maybe we should make it so you can dictate what colored lights can be on privately owned buildings?

And no one asked you to defend it. I’d rather fall on this side of the fence than yours but that’s my right being an American, just as it’s yours to defend an un-American display from a “privately owned building.”
I’m not surprised. This country is about political correctness, especially with the Democrats in control of this country. This country is powered by capitalism and the owners of the Empire State Building is probably doing this to attract tourists from China. For those who are unhappy with this, you have a right to boycott this by not going to the Empire State Building or buying any related mechandise. To keep in perspective, it’s the government not the people.
I can’t believe I’m seeing someone on this forum not take offense to this. Maybe a re-reading of how the Chinese Communists came to power is in order or just this.
I am not surprised given two years ago they lit green to honor those celebrating a muslim holiday.

I find it almost difficult to believe that someone could be so ignorant of history that they would give in to Chinese pressure to white-wash their past. 30-40 million people died in the so-called “Great Leap Forward”. Another 3-4 million died in the “Cultural Revolution.” Mao Zedung is in contention with Hitler and Stalin for the title of Most Murderous Human Being EVER. And they are CELEBRATING his rise to power? :mad:
