Emerson mini commander claims!

I own an emerson mini commander and I remember reading on the emerson website that the blade is still thick enough to “put it through a car hood.” Can anyone substantiate these claims??? No really though what are your experiences with the emerson knives, in particular the mini commander?

If you live near Texas, drive on over. I have a couple Emerson’s I’ll be happy to punch through the hood of your car.

They are quite sturdy. I have not had a problem with any of the four Emerson’s I own. I don’t baby them, but I also do not chop up decommissioned Soviet tanks with them, either.

They will handle any normal use. If you abuse them, they will probably break, like anything else. I can break a Busse, given a vice and a sledgehammer.

If you need a crowbar, buy a crowbar.

Ill pass thanks. I may look into this further on a junk car. And if it breaks I will definitely contact Emerson and let them know!
And another note, DONT loan your knife to someone who is looking for a philips head screwdriver! lol

I am going to side with seriousstudent on this one. If you need a crowbar get a crowbar. I am a bit of a knife junkie, I have had emersons striders, reeve. Typical Tacticool folders. They are all great knives. For the most part they will stand up to most things you throw at them. But pray tell why you need your mini-commander to go through a car hood? Please do not miss read me. I simply am curious?

I will bet a simple spyderco delica will also punch through a car hood. Doesnt mean anything though.

Ive got $15 knives that will do that. I have a cheep Smith and Wesson knife that I use to open up steel 55gal drums at work. So, yeah I’d believe that claim. Its really not difficult to puncture through sheet metal. That emerson is still a kickin knife though!

I own a Mini-Commander and two Mini-CQC7’s. The blades are quite sturdy, but the locks are not. All three have been subjected to normal, non-abusive use, which for me includes numerous practice openings. The locking bars on the Mini-Commander and one of the Mini-CQC7’s have now worn to the point where I can close the knives without touching the locking bar. I understand that this type of wear is common for liner locking knives.

In all fairness to Emerson, when I contacted them, they quickly offered to fix the problem for no more than the cost of return shipping for the knives. The only reason this was not done is simply that I haven’t gotten around to sending the knives back for repair, not due to any fault of Emerson’s customer service.

My current EDC is a Sypderco Delica with the Emerson-licensed wave feature. I have more confidence in the rocker bar lock, and the larger wave is both more certain to open and easier on clothing.

I have punched through a metal quart Pineapple container one night while having way too many drinks. Needed a mixer for the vodka:laugh:
Blade looked fine, a little dull after that but didn’t even chip the point.

This was an Emerson CQC 14 “stubby”.

I have owned and do own many Emersons. Toughest knives around.

Emersons are GTG. I just bought a new one because I have “abused” my old Commander for 10 years now. I’m still keeping it, and it still works fine though!
