Embrace the different colors of DDC or try to match?

Well I’m kinda at a stand still here and not knowing which route to go. As the angle and light changes so does the anodized colors. But here it is normally in it’s raw. Stock and grip will be Coyote Tan and controls will be FDE. Where I’m stumped on is should I hold out and later try and get another anodized DDC set that will hopefully match more closely or should I just embrace the different shades and move on? A small part of me loves the SCAR look it has going on. But the OCD part of me is screaming no.

Roll with it!!

This. 50 shades of fde is not for the ocd.

I’m glad to see that I’m not the only one that got a Luna Black lower and a ‘black’ upper from Brownell’s. Some how this:

Please note the Geissele Super Duty Receiver Sets are not a “matched set”. The shades of anodize between the upper and lower may be slightly different

didn’t not prepare me for TOTALLY DIFFERENT COLORS.

What did you use on the receivers, Moly Resin?

What? And yea I didn’t get too lucky this time with the DDC but sometimes it works out nicely.

Dudes on Boomerchan (Arfcom) have lost years off their lives trying to get matching FDE/DDC/Dark Poop Tan.

Just run it.

If it’s not jet black, it’s serving its purpose. Doesn’t have to match to be effective, and one would think the opposite would be true even.

I’d be the guy who’d drop green furniture on it just because.

Sounds like cheap and effective camouflage to me!

I think it was a Green Beret I heard talking about camouflage once, who said that a big reason they camo stuff isn’t just to avoid being seen, but to prevent someone at a distance from seeing what they had. Like it’s easy to see if someone is carrying a rifle if it’s all one solid color, especially if it’s black, but not so much if it’s all chopped up into different colors.

Same here, in fact I have.

I went down the rabbit hole recently. I have the scars and empty cans of paint remover to prove it. Ended up buying 3 different colors of Aervoe paint before finding the right shade. I found Aervoe Field Drab compliments Geissele and Surefire shades. It’s not a match, but it compliments it well. Field Drab is also a very close match to Magpul FDE and B5 Systems Coyote.

Good luck on your journey. Lol.

Sometimes it’s fun to watch other shooters at the range have an aneurysm.

I think it looks great, love the two tone look

I thought it was well known that it is very hard to get FDE to match. Even from the exact same manufacturer.

Your only real options are to live with it (I would) or cerakote.

Not sure how well known it is, but it’s absolutely true. Fun fact: the Navy gray Mk14s were actually supposed to be FDE, but they came out gray by accident. Shops have gotten a lot better at brown ano dyes since then, but they’re still very inconsistent. The high number of rejects was why brown ano colors were either unavailable or expensive/done in short runs. Geissele said screw it, it’s a feature, and thus gave us 40 shades of FDE.

I actually spoke with Mad Custom Coating and was told cerakoting will NOT match the color and they have lost many many hours just trying to match anodized colors for customers and have always failed.

I think a good gold mixed with rose gold would be the ticket but maybe it’s easier said than done.

I’m OCD about stuff like that so I’d probably get it Cerakoted.

When I was considering buying a scar, I looked for the ones with the most different color variations. I prefer the mix and match FDE world.

I think it looks good as is, just embrace it.

Love OD green accessories…wish Magpul would bring back the OD green mags though…I am tried of spray painting mine…lol
