Eley Edge

So Eley came out with some new ammo. They are calling it Edge, and it’s suppose to be kind of a replacement for Eley Team, from what I’m hearing. It’s more expensive than Team, but not as expensive as Match.

Eley says:

ELEY the makers of tenex have designed a new cutting edge cartridge. Unlike any other .22 cartridge on the market, edge is breaking engineering boundaries with its scientifically developed surface treatment. The surface treatment delivers both a unique black look and increases the frictional force between case and bullet to give a more consistent propellant burn. Edge production benefits from tenex technology and introduces key features like the patented flat nose bullet profile to deliver superb accuracy.

Have a look.

You can see there are some differences, some subtle, some not so subtle. Obviously the color is completely different, and there are some subtle differences noticeable on the bullets as well. It will be interesting to see how this stuff shoots through my bench gun.

I love the new box. Very rugged, and easy to use. Has little standoffs that make it easy to grab the rounds by the rim. Much more awesome than the flip-top.

Anyone else try any yet?

Haven’t seen any yet. I like the Eley Match though.

I shot rimfire benchrest very seriously for many years & still follow what’s going on. I don’t think this new ammo will be a game changer. It has a slightly larger diameter so it may do pretty good in rifles with a looser chamber. Chasing good match ammo (lot sensitive) will wear your a$$ out after awhile. I’ve got a collection of NEW NAME Eley from over the years. (Benchrest, Benchrest Gold, National Match, International Match, of course Tenex, & Match. The best ammo I’ve ever had was Foicchi Stardust Exacta, and Midas L from Lapau. Those last two brands won’t shoot in a bucket now. At times in the past most all Eley was as bad. Now some is very good, but the good stuff is sold in a New York second. Now I can buy two good handguns or a DD AR for the price of a case of “possibly” good rimfire match ammo.

I cut one in half. Looks like the surface treatment goes in and out!
