Electric Razor Suggestions

Back in September my son was diagnosed with a medulloblastoma brain tumor. Three days later the tumor was removed and he’s successfully completed radiation therapy with six months of chemo therapy to begin on New Years Day.

As a result of his treatment, my son began to rapidly lose his hair so I shaved my head with him. Being about 75% of the way towards baldness already, shaving my head was no big deal, except that I actually LIKE being bald now.

I’ve been using disposable razors but that’s getting way too expensive as the cheap $4.00 disposables are as good as useless and the nice Gillette razors are $15 for four of them.

Now I’m in the market for a good electric razor for my entire head; face and bald head.

A few years ago I tried a Panasonic wet/dry razor and absolutely hated it.

I’m willing to buy a decent razor now but am not sure if there’s a preferred one that’ll work on my big bald head as well as my beard.

Any M4C.net recommendations?

Braun Series 7. Works wonders on neck skin so the tight skin of your scalp should be a breeze.

Read the multitudinous positive reviews here by others than myself.

I second the Braun. I keep my hair VERY (#1 guard) short and use mine for my face but I have used it on my head and it worked just fine. I use electric because I hate the expense of razors…

I don’t know which Panasonic shaver you tried but my Panasonic ARC 4 NANOTECH ES8243A Wet/ Dry rechargable (13,000 rpm motor) is easily the best i have ever used and puts my dad’s Braun to shame. I have tried all the top rated shavers and for me , this one kicks ass.

I have not used it on my head but I like Rotary razors like the Philipps Norelco. I have tried Braun and Panasonic razors but always go back to the Norelco rotary.

+1 for Braun.

And congrats on your son’s successful surgery and RT. I lost my father to a brain tumor when I was eight (back in '79.) Thank God for the progress in technology.

Enjoy your future together…and being bald.

I’ve never found an electric razor that shaves like a blade.

I know you asked about electrics, but here’s what works for me: For head and face, I like the Schick Quattro. The Gillette Fusion is also GTG, but is much more expensive. Both have a blade head with a flexion and range of motion that prevents nicks and cuts. I’ve found them best with a gel underneath.

I’ve been finding the Quattro disposables cheaper than the replacement blade heads. I get a week to ten days out of one of them shaving daily. You can buy the Quattro disposables in larger quantities online cheaper, too.

Arcitec …have used this one from 2007. Wife got it for me for Xmas, but I used a Norelco since 1989. I got tired of bleeding on my white shirts!

Go big or go home!

Or a safety razor, blades are .25 each

In all seriousness I like the electric razors that ooze the lotion, they make a fuckin mess but give me the only decent shave I can get with electrics. Straights are fun too once you get the hang of them and stop slicing yourself open.

I use a Norelco rotary and I’ve found that if I use the pop up trimmer first and then the razors, It gets as close as any razor blade I’ve used.

I’ve been thinking about trying an electric again but I still prefer a blade. Every electric I’ve tried makes my neck break out so I just stick with the blade.

On a different note, prayers for your son and family. Glad you two are close and while hair grows back he will never forget his dad shaving just for him.
