I don’t expect this will reach much of the audience who needs the advice, but perhaps will convince some.
If you are listing an item valued at $500-$1000+ for sale/swap, include photos! Period. There is a reason the term “gun porn” exists. I and many other potential buyers can be seduced, but “email for pics” ain’t an effective pick-up line. Unless it’s something I have desperately been seeking, I am likely to skip past your lazy listing that requires extra work on my part.
And for the love of God and all that is holy, do NOT delete the sale price when your item sells. I hate that worse that root canals and watered-down Scotch put together.
We end up with a LOT of “How much is this worth?” threads, because people are genuinely trying to figure out a price. I swear, I want to smite the people that delete their prices.
Smite them, almighty smiter. I often ponder why people do these two things. These are two terms and conditions that should have to be agreed to before someone can post in EE. May I also add: Leave feedback for sales, especially if the other party leaves feedback for you.
And to add to this rant…
MARK YOUR ITEMS SOLD!!!
Click on you thread, hit edit, go to advanced and MARK IT SOLD!
I can’t stand when I click on an item only to see SOLD somewhere hidden in the beginning or end of the description!
You should always edit the title of the thread to mark it as SPF, SOLD, or whatever the status is.
Think of it this way. We have guys deployed down range, that are looking at this website over shitty satellite downlinks. When they do not have to wait 18 minutes to download the full post of something already sold, you are doing your bit to help 'Murica.
Something needs to be done about this. I get all excited thinking maybe the price dropped on something I was interested in only to see it at the top of the listing marked sold.
Not speaking for senior leadership, but I can tell you that the EE is getting more focused attention these days from the mods. A larger number of us are looking at the ads there more closely. We are sending PM’s for inadvertent mistakes, and infractions for egregious violations.
Another thing is that is the less time we spend doing janitorial chores in GD, the more time we have to watch the EE.
