Edge in knife?

I’m looking to get an edge in knife like the Spyderco P’kal or ShivWorks’ Disciple/Clinch Pick. I want a fixed blade and I really like the ShivWorks knives but am looking for a cheaper option.

Anyone know of a knife that fits that role? I’d really like to keep it around $100-$150. Definitely under $200 otherwise I’d just get one of the ShivWorks offerings.

Thanks.

I would urge you to bite the bullet and get a CP or disciple. Yes, they cost a bit more, but you are buying some uniqueness.

A few years ago I tried to find a less expensive alternative. I went through 3 or 4. I settled on a Boker Bud Nealy Escort in a custom sheath. It works fine, and is still my back up or if I am worried about losing or damaging the knife (like when camping/hiking).

But when I had the chance to play with a CP for a weekend, I realized it fits the niche better than anything else by leaps and bounds. It was designed by a man (Southnarc) who lives and breathes this material (ECQC/rverse edge pikal work) night and day. The CP and Disciple work in that envelope perfectly.

The problem with most other pikal blades, whether purpose built or crowbarred in like my Escort, are they have some flaws. Generally it is either the blade orientation is a little off, or that the handle is too thick causing a negative impact on concealability. The CP especially has a unique handle that conceals well, yet fills the hand.

I understand where you are coming from but I think in the long run you will save money by buying the more expensive one up front.

I’d be patient and hold out for a used Clinchpick. Lots of folks buy them and never use them. I’ve seen a few in the $120-$170 range on various forums.

I’m not sure this fits your role, but I just picked up a Cold Steel SRK and have been more impressed with it than any other knife I can remember, even my RC4. Picked it up at Smokey Mtn Knife Works for $68.

I had a Ti Clinch Pick for a while. Very nice knife, very natural to use edge in but the Ti blade was a bitch to sharpen. I have to say that lack of affordable knives designed for edge in is the only real stumbling block.
