Around my place I always have my SureFire E1e in my pocket.
If I go outside and night, or leave my property in the daylight, I add my SureFire A2 Aviator to my pocket.
That way I always have at least 2 flashlights on me at all times.
I always carry a pocket knife arlound the house, and again if I leave the property I have at least 2 pocket knives, one is always a Swiss Army knife.
Fenix PD20 clipped to a leatherman pouch. Uses a single CR123a type battery, weighs just over an oz, 3" long, but has 6 output levels including strobe, with a top output of 180 lumens. Best EDC light I’ve had.
After the Stategos Intl. Low Light Instructor course, I was pretty underwhelmed with any light that required anything more then “press for on”, click on being locked out or absent was also desirable. I wanted the simplest light possible.
The L4 provided that. I can tolerate the Backup with it’s “low beam”, but just barely.
I carry a 4sevens 123tac everyday and despite the fact that it is beat to hell it has never failed me.
I bought a 4sevens preon for my wife after an embarresing moment where my wife was home alone and didnt have a flashlight(there is likely $1k worth of flashlights in the house including one on the dresser:blink:) so now she has one on here keychain. I liked it so much I will be buying one for me to carry as a secondary since AAA’s are plentiful and when batteries die it doesnt matter if you have a light or not.
My usual carry light was a Streamlight PT1-L, but I recently dropped it and shattered the lens when I dropped it on gravel and a sharp pebble hit in JUST the right spot. I am trying to get it fixed, but it’s looking like I will have to get a new one, which sucks, because I am poor and $40 is a bit for me to spend…it’s either that or gas.
Overall, the PT1-L was great. It was BRIGHT, small and handy. Like others have said, everyone laughs at you until the lights go out . Then you’re the IT person for people to be close to.
Since 1997 I’ve carried a Rosen SOS on my support side with one spare mag, and one handheld light. The light comes in handy on a regular basis. I can’t think of a good reason not to carry one. Looking under a car in broad daylight still requires a light. If you are flying and something goes wrong, having a light will be very helpful. If the power goes out in your home/office, you don’t have to go look for a flashlight. It’s a regular occurance for coworkers to borrow mine because they know I have it.
I shot them an e-mail today (took me a while to do it). Actually, reading this topic is what got me moving on trying to get it fixed before buying a new one. And their CS is usually really good, so I hope to have something soon. I checked the warranty but I don’t think my error in dropping the light would be covered under warranty. But who knows?
I will check out that site later today when I actually get home, Thanks!
I can’t say enough about the Quark Tactical 1x123 light: small, bright, easy to use. I carry one most everyday and one rides clipped to my “around the house” shorts 24/7 and is immensely useful as well as survived many dozens of falls to the concrete.
When in slacks and dress clothes I have been carrying a Nitecore EX11 1x123 light for a few months. Small and bright with a ramping feature and a “piston” switch that will not come on accidentally in my pocket.
I typically carry a Malkoff MD2/M61 combo behind my spare mag for EDC. Super bright, 2 levels by turning the head, and a super long runtime when using a Li-Ion 18650 battery. It is also a bit smaller than a SF 6P and it has a smooth round profile that doesn’t hurt my clothes.
I don’t think they even have faith in any systems, they are just happily ignorant. I usually just ignore them and let them go back to their happy place. Explaining anything beyond “why not?” to people with no real mindset isn’t worth my time.
Agreed- my girlfriend is from the midwest and her, as well as her entire family (including brother who fought in Afghanistan), all think it’s weird that I A) carry a knife daily and B) own a firearm. They are like “but what are the chances of you really needing a gun, and if you did use it, what if you went to jail” etc. I try to explain that I’d rather be on trial in front of a jury for defending my family than in a coffin but I get sort of an eye roll reaction.
Those people (people who don’t get it, in general) are the people that expect the government to do everything for them. The police will protect you no matter what, a package should be easy enough to be opened without anything but if it’s not, just wait until you get home and have scissors. What the hell are you doing outside after dark to need a flashlight, anyway?
I got a 4sevens quark mini 123 a few months ago and I am still impressed with how small and bright it is. I also enjoy annoying people with the strobe at work.
I want a lummi but I heard a lot of bad things about not filling orders for months.
I carry a SF E2D LED and a Microtech Socom and I don’t know which one people thinks is worst. Never fails same idiot that wonders why I carry a flashlight is always the one that needs to borrow it. If they only knew about the M&P 45 w/x300 IWB.
I don’t need one on my person at work b/c I work in a building that uses ambient light efficiently and I’m only there during daylight hours. It would take an epic event where it was black as night during the day and the power goes out for me to be plunged into total darkness at work.
However, I keep a streamlight polytac in my messenger bag and that is typically always with me.
People even give me grief over the allen wrench I keep on my desk. When they ask I tell them it is to fix a particular pos table when it breaks again. On my hall, I’m the go to guy with the tools and such that folks eventually need when their crap breaks.
I have huge windows in my office and I still need my light sometimes to look behind my computer, and more than a few times to go to the bathroom or other during a power outage over the years.
But hey, whatever works for you as long as you put some thought into it!
Yup, my setup works for me, but I know that it wouldn’t for others. I’m a high school teacher and use a laptop exclusively, so not “desk” for me just a work table. I need to carry so much for work any way that I carry a messenger bag all the time that serves as a mobile office.
While I’m thinking about it, in the day of smartphones no one with such a phone should be without one. You can get an app that turns your flash into an led flashlight.
