Anyone have one of these yet?
I’m trying to figure out if it is American made?
After handling an Eagle Crossover Pack, which is not made in America, I have no interest in purchasing foreign made Eagle gear. The Crossover honestly felt like a cheap chinese POS. I still deploy with American Made Eagle Gear.
From the pictures, it appears the Crossover pack is made of ripstop nylon instead of the usual 1000D Cordura that everyone is accustomed to seeing from Eagle. Do you think this could have contributed to your feeling it was a cheap Chinese POS?
I can tell you that after 6 years of selling Camelbak’s GMI line of Cordura packs and hydration products, that any time I pick up one of the Recreational Line of packs normally sold in outdoor stores, it feels flimsy to me.
Tim,
I believe the Crossover was made in Dominican Republic (with the LE line) but I cannot remember for sure.
I saw a Crossover at Camp Victory PX in Baghdad. The Zippers were the biggest turn-off, the construction(stitching) was 2nd, and the light weight material was 3rd.
The zippers were small and seemed to catch and snag.
The same day I opted for another Eagle IIIA pack.
I like the design of the YOTE, but if it’s foreign made I’m just not interested. I spend more time here in Iraq than the US so I have no plans to compromise on quality.
To clarify reference the original poster, all of our kit is made using the same materials whether it is sewn in the US or DR. A US made M4 Mag Pouch is identical to a DR made M4 Mag Pouch, with the exception of Dominican Republic labor. We ship our standard materials down to our DR facility. Nothing changes other than the person sewing the kit.
The US made Crossover packs look and feel identical to the DR model. That pack looks/feels different because of the material, as most Eagle items are made with either 1000D or 500D. The purpose of that pack was to offer a budget minded backpack for the PX.
Ben,
I mean no disrespect toward Eagle at all, just so we are clear. The Crossover just doesn’t work for me. All of my main kit out here is Eagle, and Tom Alibibrando can attest to this.
How do you tell the difference between products (mainly mag pouches) if they are made in the US or not?
Also, can you tell me where the Eagle YOTE is made? I’m very interested in that product.
I got one of these pack @ Shot this year, Its pretty much the one I use daily for range activity. Its very comfortable and the load fell good when full.
I picked up one of these (YOTE pack) at SHOT as well… As much as I want to like it, my main gripe is that it’s too heavy for it’s size - almost 2 1/2 pounds EMPTY. I also think the shoulder straps are overly complicated. Other than those concerns I will say its an awesome little pack with a great number of unique features - the beavertail especially (I haven’t put a helmet in there yet, but it works great as a stuff pouch for a rain jacket, windshirt, mini laptop, etc.
