First let me state that this isn’t a dump on Eagle thread. I think we all know Eagle’s pedegree, history and contributions.
With that said, I remember the bad taste it left in my mouth when I first started seeing Blackhawk gear with tags that said Made in Vietnam instead of Made in America.
So I was surprised when my Eagle Ak 6-mag chest rig showed up today with a Made in Dominican Republic tag on it. There seems to be a growing trend of companies starting up and priding themselves on being made in the U.S. And then after they grow, quietly moving production overseas.
Hopefuly Eagle’s quality doesn’t go south the way Blackhawks did.
With that said I have no complaints about the piece of kit I received today. Quality seems the same. I’m just bummed to see this happening more and more.
Its funny you mentioned them beacause I almost did in my OP. I’ve got UPS dropping off their AR Short Incursion Chest Rig (SICR) tomorrow. Also got the Assaulters Gun Belt last week. It came in a neat little pouch kind of like a bottle of Crown Royal does. It shows attention to detail and at the least I’ll use it as some sort of stuff sack or throw a shirt in it and use it as a pillow.
I’m wondering if all production has been moved there or if they still produce some things in MO.
When things start being made for a fraction of the price in 3rd world shit holes I’d like to see the cost saving passed on to the consumer more but I get the game and understand why that doesn’t happen so much.
Pretty sure they have to be making some stuff in the states still as the MOLLE ruck and other assorted items I was issued for OEF was all made by Eagle.
I wasn’t saying that only First Spear is good to go, but that the guys that made Eagle what is was are (from what I understand) now part of First Spear.
Eagle making gear in the DR is old news, by a few years now. There are several threads here on the topic, along with photos of what people were seeing with the US vs. DR products in side by side comparisons.
Short: Under the old EI, the DR stuff was GTG.
The big question remains is what will happen to the EI brand in the longer term, now that it is under ATK and under the same umbrella as BHI and Uncle Mikes.
A couple of months ago i was shopping in the EE and picked up a lightly used [Made in St. Louis, MO] Eagle M4 LE rig… it’s not something i needed, but since i’m local i had to buy it.
To quote calicojack, Eagle has pretty much split manufacturing in two. Their commercial stuff you typically see on vendor websites now is made in Dom Rep, whereas the Mil-Issued gear is being made in the US. It’s almost a little known fact, but they have been doing it for several years now.
