Eagle Arms was Armalite before it renamed itself Armalite; after which it became their ‘budget’ brand. I have heard the lowers were made by LMT, not sure if it’s true or not.
The lower should be good quality, find an upper you like and go from there. Stocks are not hard to change, either. If nothing else, you’ll save yourself 11% in excise tax.
New York was a good place to sell a ‘pre-ban’ lower up until recently, not sure which states still need pre-ban lowers.
Karl lewis, founder of LMT, sold Eagle Arms to Armalite in 1994 I believe. If the lower is marked “Coal Valley” it is pre-Armalite and ought to be better quality. I know of only two models, one looking like a standard AR15 and the other a 20" flat top with beautifully machined heavy stainless barrel and round free-float handguard.
Mine circa 1993 pictured with Colt SP-1. No production numbers, but much less common than the carry handle model.
I had one probably 20 years ago that I used for service rifle competition. IIRC it had a stainless barrel and was built specifically for DCM type matches.
I agree. The PRE armalite Eagles were supposed to be better than the ARMALITE stuff… but I’d bet neither is as close to the TDP as what you can build these days.
