I know everybody knows what this means, but how about the rundown? Timeframe, who what, where, and what language? And how do we know they really said it? Any body got the actual history book skinny on this?

Translated to mean “Come and take them.” Reported to be Spartan King Leonidas’ response to the Persian King Xerxes request for the Spartan’s and their allies to lay down their arms at the Battle of Thermopylae, Greece 480 B.C.
Μολὼν λαβέ reportedly appeared in Sayings of the Spartans (Apophthegmata Laconica), counted among the works of (or at least attributed to) Plutarch.
