So I can end a debate, can an LMT Defender be converted to select-fire?

most people wont chime in on questions like this. as i understand it, if its not manufactored as one its illegal. converting is a federal offense. but as far as if it can you would have to ask LMT directly as i dont want to be implicated in any future lawsuits :smiley: oh and it’s not likely LMT will answer this either.

I’m not entirely clear if you’re asking the technical question (i.e. is it physically possible to retrofit most of the select-fire components and drill the receiver for the disconnector), or the associated legal question, but the latter sort of renders the whole argument moot.

I am aware of no overt proprietary receiver blocks, dimensional variances, etc. in LMT’s non-NFA lowers that would preclude a successful conversion (though I do not own one, so I’m not qualified to give a definitive ruling on this), but of course it is legally impermissable to “convert” any receiver which was not already listed on the NFA/transferable registry as of 19 May 1986.

I’m not playing the Dudley Dooright card here, but I don’t know of any reputable discussion board where the cadre would turn a blind eye toward any discussion that went too far down this path. The law is clear, and while no one is suggesting that your purposes in asking are suspect, there just isn’t too much more to say here.

Inside the U.S. the only legal way would be by a Type 07 FFL Class II SOT on a LE letter making a non-transferable post 86 dealer sample.

You have to install FA parts and Bolt carrier too.

I totally understand, but in order for me to get him to agree to the rifle I want us to have that question needed to be answered. He was advised on the legalities of such a bonehead move though so hopefully it’s a moot issue now.
