Duct tape is the prep item of the week for me. While living on Sint Maarten, we went through multiple hurricanes; including Lenny which stalled over the island for two days. Crazy stories for another thread. During Lenny, we had a window blow out. Wind approx 150mph, heavy rain, had to get window secured. Used heavy duty trash bags to cover the window area and then layered duct tape. From window casing out, where trash bag ended, had about a two foot wide “strip” of duct tape all around the window. Trash bags held, no leakage, helped that window was on side of house and not in direct wind.
Living in NOLA while wife in Residency, here comes Katrina; she wasn’t allowed to leave so I stayed at the house while she stayed in hospital. Multiple broken windows that duct tape helped secure.
Katrina aftermath: I cannot count the number of times I used duct tape. Had a nail go almost all way through foot while walking in 3 ft. of water. Part of neighbors fence was blown into our yard where it was quickly submerged. Drank some beer and jammed a Q-tip soaked in bleach into hole. Put on bandage and covered in duct tape. No infection and the bandage stayed in place.
Grill blown across street. Used duct tape to put back together and managed to actually use for about a week. Et cetera, et cetera.
Stock some duct tape. Also, trash bags(heavy duty) came in handy as fuck as well.
Agreed. They also make this tape in 1" thick rolls that are perfect for BOB’s and can usually found in the “impulse buy isle racks” at the checkout of stores like Menards.
Side note; Gorilla glue is also extremely handy…
I also still like military spec 100/90mph tape. It can be bought in tan and two different shades of OD green IIRC.
