DSA barrel question

I am looking to get a DSA ZM4 16" Parkerized 1:9 Twist M4 Barrel - DSZM4001M4

my question is are these Magnetic Particle Inspection tested? and if so are they marked?

also does anyone have experience with these barrels and could tell me how they preform.

thank you

I emailed them one time with an inquiry as to whether or not their barrels were 4150 CMV. I received a response that standard barrels were 4150 and fluted and or melonited were 4140. I did not inquire about HPT/MPI but I would be inclined to believe that for $110 with FSB and barrel nut that these barrels have not had the testing and probably don’t use quality materials.

talked to some woman there and she informed me that the barrels are made by mossberg and they can not give out what material they are made out of and what testing they have had. was not impressed with the attitude and answer I was given. you would think they would be more willing to give answers to questions. instead of saying they do not know. If I was selling these types of items I would make sure to know materials and other important information…

Companies that won’t tell you what their barrels are made of or what testing they do on them is a red flag.

Pass on them.

I would pass. The $110 price tag is, I believe, just TOO low for a full spec’d barrel. And in my own personal experience with a company that was not forthcoming about their barrel material, I would save my self the trouble if I were you op and get a good one from a reputable company now if you care about having true to spec barrel I.E. COLT, DD, BCM etc. It will save you frustration and possibly expense in the long run. I’m sure the DSA barrel will shoot and all if you just want to plink, it might be fine.

I did call back and talked to a gentleman and he told me the specs. Ordered it on the 27th of december had it 3 days later. So far so good. Got good groups first time out. Was very happy with customer service recieved on second call will say first call was probably due to high volumes due to the holiday.

And…?

So let me ask you this. You were told that their barrels are made by Mossberg, yet their website says they are made by DSA.

Do you honestly believe that their barrels could even be close to those of Colt, Daniel Defense, BCM, etc… when they are about half the cost? Common sense would say- NO.

So then you talk to some other person and you decide to buy. What was it that he said that made you do it. I am curious?

You’re looking to nit pick a dog shit barrel???

If you want all the fancy QC, why are you shopping in the doo doo department??

The Short Yellow bus convoy is rolling again… <========== I’ll take the infraction… I had to vent…

Well I regret posting on this board. Some good feed back the rest negative crap about having to spend Big money. not everyone can afford that not to mention DSA is not the only company that buys barrel blanks from mossberg I’m sure that more companies use these blanks than you are willing to admit. In my experience (not necessarily with firearms) but in general big names cost more because it is a big name. Not always the best. And yes there is some truth to you get what you pay for but I am also sure just about everyone has proven that wrong once or twice. I was simply asking a question if any one had first hand experience with these barrels and all I got was a bunch of pretentious opinions that are based on speculation and not hard facts of personal experiences with the product. I dont care how much your gun cost, how big your house is, what kind of vehicle you drive. This is not a contest to spend the most money, to see how rude and obnoxious you can be. You all have proven that just because you are an adult that you still have the Mentality of a child having to make yourself look superior to everyone else. Childish and immature.

Im stepping down off my soap box and done commenting.

Of course I don’t want to spend more than I have to, but at some point in time I realized that it made more sense to pay up, for a better product, rather than buying lower quality products that never satisfied my needs and ended up costing more in the end as I had to replace them.

If the DSA works for you, fine. Just don’t buy it thinking that it is as good as a Colt or Daniel Defense barrel, because it isn’t.

The reason that you got the responses that you did, was due to how this issue was addressed. If you had worded your original question a little differently, you would have gotten a much different response.

The fact is that the DSA barrels simply are not of the quality that most around here demand. One glaring issue being that they have a 1/9 twist rate - that basically means that it won’t stabilize heavier bullets, which is a pretty big issue for a serious user of the rifle.

For $80 more you could have got a DD barrel.

Yes, I agree. Everyone should issue you an apology for failing to validate your desire to purchase sub-standard gear.

You joined M4C. It did not join you.

Dont get mad, these guys don’t know what they’re talking about.

So when you called DSA, what specs did they give you for their barrels?

First off. Many of us know who the other barrel makers are. That’s not the issue.

I simply asked you what did the salesperson tell you when you called back, that persuaded you to buy one of their barrels?

Sorry didnt mean to get upset but in my profession before i give my opinion i ask more questions if i feel there needed and i don’t get rude or opinionated as my job is to work with facts . I am a professional firefighter paramedic 20 years of service and hopefully 20 more.

Specs were 4140 1/9 twist (good for me as my plan as of now is 50-70grain) not individually mp tested selling point for me was honestly price as they gave me a discount for being a ff/medic. So it was very inexpensive. I do plan on buying a higher end barrel in the future and then use this as a plinker and perhaps a dedicated 22 upper. My lower and upper receiver are stag with dpms lpk. Magpul furniture.
