I’m specifically looking for recommendations for a drop-leg holster for my G17 with a TLR-1 attached. I have very little experience with drop-leg holsters…so I’m looking for advice from those who know what they’re talking about. Let me know what you recommend!
You might try BDS Tactical… http://www.bdstacticalgear.com/pd-bds-tactical-universal-drop-leg-holster.cfm
I have used or was issued a number of drop holsters. The best hands down was the safariland line. I never used a light on my issued gun but I knew people who had them and they loved the holster as much as I did.
Safariland
Just got my hands on a ALS and love it already.
Safariland ALS SLS or G Code. Why do you want a drop leg? Safariland makes a low ride that is low enough to clear armor and other gear.
If you have to have one, Safariland is the best. SLS or ALS are both good. The higher on the hip it rides the better. Once I did a multi day corse with the leg drop, it ditched it. Standing straight up when qualifying, the gun was always in the same place. One we introduced drawing from seated, Squatting, climbing a stair case, etc. I found the pistol was never in the same place for the draw. Also, when running, it tended to slop around on my leg a lot, even when it was pretty winched down.
I eventually went back to a standard duty belt holster from Safariland.
I would recommend borrowing one first and putting through its paces before dropping down your cash…
Just my experience. Other folks seem to love them…
I would try a set up like this before you decide.
Typical belt holsters put the butt too high for armor.
Thigh holsters solved this, but most set ups for some reason seem set to put the gun/holster too low on the thigh.
I tried a dropped belt holster back around 08 and have been GTG since. No straps around your leg, no backing plate vs. flopping holster, and below armor.
I’m definitely open to other options…what would you suggest?
I’ve had success with Safariland also. YMMV.
Why a drop-leg? I wear one so that I can draw and clear my armor but why do you need one? Drop-legs are more pain than benefit, for most situations. Working from an ATV, I like a drop-leg, from my vehicle, not so much as the damn thing snags the steering wheel every time I try to get out. If you really need one I recommend Safariland and one of their ALS holsters. On polymer guns I tend to lean to polymer lights like the M3 on a polymer rail as I have seen a couple of broken dust covers but the guys I play could break anything previously deemed indestructible. If you get a drop-leg shorten the drop to the point where the butt of the weapon hits above your wrist with your arms hanging loosely at your sides. The point is to clear a vest or other waist level gear, you shouldn’t have to dip or bend to draw from it.
I use one of these from Down Range Gear that I have re-melted the holes an inch and a quarter shorter.

I have one of these I use with my FNP 45 Tac and really like it.
Fwiw this is how I run Safariland ALS rig in conjunction with my HSGI belt, its more of an abbreviated drop leg. But with SGFP its stable enough that the leg strap isn’t 100% necessary and serves as more of anchor point than anything.

Great setup but its a pain if I want to swap between my glock or M&P platforms so I’m still working on solution to that. The QLS adapter should work but I haven’t collected the components yet to try.
