Just saw on Fox News that SGT Drew Peterson, was charged with possession of a “Colt Sporter” SBR with a bbl that was 3/8 of an inch TOO SHORT!
I have no idea WHY it would be 3/8" too short, unless those idiots are measuring it wrong. (which many people do)
Only other detail I heard was that said gun had a “silencer on it at one time”.
I could see that the picture they showed, was of an AR with a bare threaded bbl, and NO FH, or suppressor on it.
Greta Van Susteren is asking the nation WHY Drew Peterson would even own a weapon like this, and why anyone would own a weapon such as this.?
Damn what I’d give to be interviewed regarding the issue.
At least she’s not totally bashing gun owners like others would…

Looks shorter than 3/8 too short.
Edit: I heard the 3/8" too short on FoxNews but I have found this:
Pelkie said the rifle barrel was slightly more than 11 inches long—almost five inches shorter than required by law. He said that even with a removable flash suppressor attached to the end—which legally cannot be considered part of the barrel—the gun was still too short.
This guy is a real POS.
Is that the same guy that’s suspected of killing his wife?
You are correct, same guy who is suspect in his wifes dissapearing act. I would like to know how they found about the SBR and exactly what charges are pending.
When they served the warrant on his home several months ago the weapons were seized and have been in evidence. I heard today that what they are really looking at charging him with is criminal act connected to a weapon (this one in particular) if IIRC. Hopefully, he will get what he has coming to him.
Judge Orders Authorities Turn Over Guns to Drew Peterson
He will walk.
I can’t believe it.
I dont see him walking, I see them making an example of him.
But Brodsky said Peterson, like many officers, bought his own weapons.
“That doesn’t make them any less a duty weapon,” he said.
So I could have used that $200 for something else besides a Tax stamp?
This is usually true if (a) It was authorized by his Agency in the first place; and (b) He’s still with said Agency.
I always thought a SBR would have to “agency owned” or registered by the individual as a SBR with the ATF. Peterson was certainly employed by the department when this gun was seized.
It could very well be a duty gun. Even though he is suspended if hes still a LEO he may have kept his issued gear.
Part of me thinks since they cant(or havnt been able to) convict him on any murder charge they are looking for anything else they can.
Plus w/ the precedent set by those cops w/ unregisterd illegal MGs who were let off because LE can posses such weapons he will get off this because of that!
I beleive his status is now retired from the Bowling Brook P.D.? Can anyone confirm?
NFA says… Agency SBRs must be agency owned, and papered to the agency. I/O SBRs, where allowable under state law, must be papered to the officer with requisite stamps, etc. All else constitutes a violation. LE status confers no special privileges.
DP retired prior to other adverse outcome.
He did retire shortly after his wife disappeared. Having spent the last 3 years in “Chicagoland” I listened to this story for the last year, and in fact have met Peterson (prior to the events surrounding his wife) through work assignments in the Bollingbrook area.
The town counsil tried to take his penssion because of his suspected involvement, however the penssion board ruled in his favor due to the fact he was not “yet” convicted of a crime commited while still in the towns service.
The local news reported that when ISP searched his home they recovered several weapons, incuding the dreaded “assault weapons”.
And civilians are not permitted to own NFA items in Sillinois.
Exactly. I think anyone with any NFA process experience should know this. The lawyer made a good arguement and the judge apparently didn’t know the law.
Yes this Guy is a POS. Yes, he probably did kill his wife and the Wife before that. But shit like this just screams of stupidity on behalf of the Government/Police. If they cant find enough evidence of this Guy killing his Wife. Then they need to suck it up. Charges like this usually end up working in favor of the Guy they are trying to throw in Jail.
I remember how the FBI painted Randy Weaver out to be some kind of Gun wielding Cop Killer. When it all came out. The original charge was that of A undercover ATF agent had finally talked him into cutting down some Shotgun Barrels. So many times that the charges were eventually thrown out as entrapment. I beleive he was asked over thirty times to do this favor for the Agent.
POS is correct. I hope they put the boots to him.
