Does anyone own or can tell me about this DPMS Titanium ‘coated’ bolt assembly (complete). Is it any good? Is it worth the money? I was thinking of purchasing one from DPMS ‘complete’, for my Colt 6520 M-4 LE carbine. Any information is appreciated.
titanium nitride is not the material the parts are made from, it is a coating applied to a DPMS bolt/carrier. Your Colt bolt is much higher quality and MP tested. Taking out the Colt parts would be a downgrade.:eek:

Dispatch- AsBushytale has stated, it would be a downgrade- a significant downgrade- to remove an MPI Colt bolt from your Colt and replace it with a non MPI hobby bolt.
Yet you’re still not sure if you should get one???
OK- the big question here is why?
Why would you even consider it?
What are the perceived advantages of the titanium nitride coating on a non MPI bolt?
I have only seen 3 of these in my classes over the years (there are very few DPMS guns in my classes, and one of those cracked at the bolt cam pin hole.

Titanium Nitriding creates an extremely hard coating (Rockwell hardness of 80 to 90) over whatever base metal it is deposited. It also reduces the coefficient of friction by 10 to 40 percent compared to the base metal over which it is deposited.
With all that said, a TiN coating is not part of the AR’s design and one has to ask, why is someone adding it? Yes, lubricity is increased, but at the expense of hardness even greater than tool steel. Has DPMS done the analysis necessary to determine if any abnormal wear occurs to the upper’s bearing surfaces due to this harder material rubbing on them? I doubt it.
Like others have said, a bolt that is made 100% to the M16’s military specifications is a far better buy, albeit with less bling to it.
Why oh why is it every time you post a simple question on a site like this, sooner or later there is a guy that has to reply with a smart ass remark. Have you got nothing better to do? All I asked for was 'some experiences’ with this item, not sarcastic comments from people who would not talk to you like that to your face. What are you contributing to my question but personal attacks? I don’t need for you to repeat what anyone else said. Maybe I feel like having a second bolt as a back up, what ever what do you care. Just curious? I’m suspicious as to ‘your’ thought process… Don’t bother replying back if you can’t keep it civil.

Just spend the money on ammo and goto the range we spend way to much time getting wazoo shit for our guns when what we really need is range time.
