DPMS LPK on my first build...replace?

Hi all,
This is my first post here…these forums are a great resource. I built this Cali-legal (cuz I live in Cali:( ) Middie a few months back:

It’s a BCM Mid-length Upper with a BMC BCG, on a S&W M&P15 with Bullet-Button, a Sully stock, Ergo SureGrip, a Territorial Gunsmith trigger guard, an LMT BUIS rear sight, a 10/20 mag, and a DPMS LPK.

After reading many posts critical of DPMS lpk’s, my question is: should I replace the whole lpk? Or maybe just get quality spares? I haven’t shot it much yet. Seems like there are many of you who are knowledgable, or at the very least have strong opinions…your input would be valued.

Also, I can’t really afford a quality optic, I can maybe spend $150- $200 right now. I would be setting the rifle up for shooting out to 100yds max, so a red dot or 1-4x scope would probably work. Should I just master the irons until I can afford Aimpoint/ Eotech or ACOG and spend the $150-$200 on ammo? It’ll take a year or more to save for the quality glass.:frowning:

only problem with dpms are the roll pins.

Nice rifle, PanzerMeyer! I wouldn’t be too worried about the DPMS lpk unless you hate the trigger. Otherwise if it functions well you shouldn’t have anything to worry about with that lpk.

I like your LMT chopped carry handle BUIS. Nice to have the A2 elevation wheel for the IBZ 50/200 meter sight mod, etc. You can have a lot of fun with that so I would master the irons now and get good optics later instead of going with a cheap optic now.

Thanks for the good pictures, I noticed that your BCM upper doesn’t perfectly align at the magazine catch channel on the S&W lower. Same thing happens on my M&P-15 lower with an ArmaLite U15A4CB upper. So it must be the S&W lower that’s slightly off since we both have that lower. Since both our rifles function fine let’s hope this is just a cosmetic issue and not fuctional. I’m not real worried about it since I’ve never had a failure to feed but since I noticed your picture thought I’d bring it up. (Cropped picture below…)

It’s always a good idea to have spares on hand in the event of a breakage. Stuff breaks from every manufacturer.

Thanks for the input. Guess I’ll leave in the DPMS lpk. The trigger seems fine to me, but then I don’t really have a reference as to what is a good trigger pull and what is bad.

As for the optic, I’m gonna wait till I can afford quality optics (but I may get something from Primary Arms), and use the irons. The money I have now will buy me some bullets.
