Being out of the “Black Rifle” game for 20 plus years, I purchased a DPMS M4 in 6.8 SPC. Even though the cartridge is only a few years old, it has a Spec II sibling. A quick e-mail to the folks at DPMS, confirmed that mine was chambered indeed for the Spec II since it had a 1-11 twist. So that opens up a number of options on the reloading bench.
Waiting for that first day at the range was over. After getting things set up and loading a few rounds into the mag, the time had come to sight the ATN holographic sight. Within four rounds the center of the target was found. Thanks to some tape, (I practice green shooting) it was time to see just what this combo was capable of doing. While shooting indoor does have its limits, 50 yds for a 16" barrel should be reasonable test.
After putting 3 rounds down range, a flip of the switch had the target heading back to see how things went. It produced a nice quarter sized group just 1 click off from being dead center. A quick adjustment and some tape, it was time to try once again. Three more rounds and a quick down and back for the target, had another nice group. One round had gone though a hole from the previous group, the group size was about that of a fifty cent piece.
In all I shoot a total of 20 rounds and was ready to head home. Since my neck has some hardware holding it together, that is about all my body can take. The rife performed much better then I thought it would, the only down side was the trigger. Being a 1911 shooter, it was rougher then I’m use to. Before the next range trip we’ll see if that can’t be corrected. Looking at the price, I think it offers a good value for someone looking to not refi the house, or like me that doesn’t shoot a lot.
