Downgrade from AICS 1.5 to H-S Precision LTR stock?

perhaps a strange question, but bear with me…

I have an R700 AAC-SD that currently sits in an AICS 1.5.

I have an oppty to pick up a like new H-S Precision Pro-Series Tactical PST012 for a relative song.

I am considering the change b/c the AICS is pretty much twice as heavy as the H-S (5.55 lbs vs 2.6 lbs).

I am perfectly willing to lug around an extra 3lbs, but the lighter weight would be nice when hiking around (esp up here in the Rockies) and shooting from other-than-prone.

I understand that the AICS will outlast cockroaches, etc., etc.
I have read that the H-S will pop the bi-pod studs.
I don’t much mind the detachable mag or not.

I am a civilian and will put only perhaps 600 - 1000 rds per year through the rifle.

If I were to switch to the H-S, I would sell the AICS and re-invest into other upgrades for the rifle (bipod, trigger, level, etc.).

I can’t find anything that says the accuracy of the rifle would be negatively affected, and a 50% weight reduction makes sacrificing a bit of durability worth considering.

So, should I stick with AICS or ease the load with the H-S? Please let me know if you’ve made the switch in the opposite direction, etc.

Thanks.

I haven’t gotten into the high $ stocks yet and have several H&S Precision stocks. They are nicer than wood and beat the hell outta the rubber salami Hogue stock but they are still a ‘production’ type of item and a skim bedding would benbenificial if you are after the best accurracy. I’d try it for awhile and see if it meets your needs while saving the 3 lbs. If not, skim bed it. I, on the other hand am looking for an AICS 2.0 for my PSS in 223 for the mag option, folder and general upgrade since I shoot it the most ($ effective). I’ve already got a new home for the stock on my 6mm.

if lightweight is worth $400, check this out http://mdttac.com/lss-chassis-remington-700.html

there were several of these on the prize table at the PNTC match in WV this weekend and one guy shooting it in the match. pretty sweet. low profile and looks like it would fit in a pack very well. 1.6 lbs (not counting an AR style butt of your choice) compared to the 5.5 lbs on the aics.

I’ve shot them both. I run an HS precision on my .308. Not sure about the bi pod stud popping thing… I put a rail section on it which is basically 2 bi pod studs… so it’s doubling the strength.

I wouldn’t run a pod on a single stud at all other than on a rimfire gun.

If going that route of the HS
